Chapter 18: The Fight Of The AOAC

  "No one guards this part of the building between 8:26 and 8:31. That gives us all five minutes to get over the fence and into the building," Will said and checked his watch. The darkness of winter had engulfed us completely and we were unseen beyond the fence of the building.

  "On my count," Will said, still staring at his watch. He counted down on his fingers from five and then pointed towards the eight foot high fence. Instantly, Ashton, Dana, Carlo, Noah, Delia, Zed, and I were climbing the fence. We were the first wave. We jumped down into the other side of the fence and dashed for the shadows of the building. As soon as we reached it, Will, Stella, Brooke, Brendan, Hugo, Xavier, and Fern were racing up the fence and over to us.

  My group turned and ran towards the unguarded door as soon as Will's group crested the fence. We threw the door open and gathered inside the white, long, wide hallway.

  "Alright, you guys all know the plan," Will said quickly as his group ran inside. Everything had gone according to plan so that meant we had exactly 2 minutes and 57 seconds.

  "Carlo's group splits and my group splits. The two extras from each group that we have already decided will be the two that will get on the inside while the rest of us keeps the perimeter safe and takes out whoever we can. Split up!" Will said quickly and we split. Ashton, Dana, and I went one way as a protection group. Fern and Noah were the two that were getting on the inside.

  Dana and Ashton raced down the hallway to where Will had said the control center was.

  "Patrol in five seconds," Ashton said and as soon as he finished we heard footsteps and we dove around a corner. As the patrol passed by we attacked.

  At first we were only in our human shapes but the patrol shifted into their shapes so we did too, which seemed to throw them off.

  I raked my claws against a boy that had shifted into a badger. He snarled and snapped at my face. I pulled back quickly and kicked with my hind paws. The boy slashed his claws across my cheek and I felt liquid run down my face. The reek of blood was in the air and that made me fight harder. After a few more quick swipes that I had gotten in, the boy turned and raced back the way he had come, along with his acquaintances.

  I shifted and Dana and Ashton did too. We continued to run down the hallway to guard outside of the room that Fern and Noah needed to get into.

  As soon as we got within a hundred feet we heard a yell and ran faster. As soon as we rounded the corner, there was a battle happening in front of us. Will was there with Stella and Brendan. Noah was attacking with his life. They were all still in their human shapes. I looked around in search of Fern and saw her lying on the ground, a pool of blood around her.

  I ran straight at a girl a little younger than me who was attacking Noah with intensity. She was fighting with a knife and heavy kicks and punches. Noah didn't have a weapon so he fought back with blows that weren't very affective.

  I rammed straight into the girl and she was thrown to the ground. Her knife skidded across the floor but that didn't stop her from kicking me in the knee quickly. I yelled in surprise and fell to the floor. The girl had her arm over my neck securely before I could do anything. I moved my knee up and caught the girl in the stomach and she moaned, giving me another second. I punched the girl and felt a pop in my knuckle. The girl rolled to the ground, unconscious.

  I jumped up and saw that most of the people who attacked were unconscious. The others had obviously ran.

  "Oh God, oh God," Will said repeatedly. He was running his hand through his hair nervously and I saw the issue. Fern and Noah were the ones who knew what to do in that room. I didn't even know what was in there, and now Fern was lying on the ground unconscious.

  "Wren. You have to go in there," Will said, his orange eyes resting on me. I felt my heart drop.

  "I don't know what to do," I said quickly but it came out more of a gasp from loss of breath.

  "You will, it's in your blood," Noah said and I nodded slowly.

  Noah beckoned to me and I followed him as he pulled out a key and stuck it into the door. We ran inside and I slammed the door behind me. When I turned I stood frozen. We were in a lab with a million viles of who knows what and a dozen computers.

  "Computer, go," Noah said and we each got onto a computer.

  "Alright the things you are going need to put in will have to be Fern's user and password. Her user is just her name, which would be Fern Blanchard. The password is fdruhb68az3 exactly! No caps!" Noah said quickly as he typed his own username and password in. My mind whirled as I typed in the information as quickly as possible and got into a database that Fern had obviously already set up.

  "Okay, next step is you need to get into the itinerary of Derin Schlitz. Please tell me you know how to hack," Noah said and I nodded hastily and pryed through the security measures. Within seconds I had a list for that day.

  "8:50, Derin is escorted to the lot to be taken to the meeting of TG?" I asked with curiosity but Noah nodded in understanding. He quickly typed in several things and then pushed enter. He grabbed my shoulder and shoved me to my feet just as sirens started to ring out. We raced back through the door and saw the rest of the group with their hands over their ears.

  "The lot in 5 minutes!" Noah yelled over the sirens.

  "We need to get out of here before they can trap us! We're as good as dead then!" Will said and raced down the hallway. We were all hot on his heels.

  Will came to a stop as he neared a door. A thick sheet of metal was starting to slide down over the door and it was the same along the hallway.

  "We're trapped!" Will yelled and a blur ran past us and there was a screech of metal. Carlo was holding the metal up on the door with pain on his face.

  Will raced forward and so did the other people of the group. I was the last one through the door and Carlo was straining to keep the metal from slicing down.

  I skidded past Carlo and then turned to make sure Carlo made it through. Before Carlo could make a move there were three men running down the hallway towards Carlo. As Carlo turned his attention towards the people the metal slipped down onto Carlo's shoulder and there was a loud snap as the metal slammed into bone. Carlo yelled in pain and slipped backwards. That's when the metal slammed closed and I stood gaping.

  "Wren!!" Ashton yelled and grabbed my arm. I stood there with tears in my eyes as Ashton urged me to move.

  Finally I turned and ran with Ashton towards "the lot" and saw a large group of people, our group lost within it.

  Will raced up to us and pointed to a person in the center of everything. He was a boy that had to only be 19. At first, he looked like a normal boy. Then I looked harder and noticed that his eyes were solid black pits, his hair was jet black, and there was an odd darkness radiating off of him.

  "We need to kill him and as many of his most loyal followers as possible," Will said and then dispersed into the crowd. All at once there was a yell and a fight broke out. Then another, and another. Within a few seconds it was total chaos through the crowd and Derin was lost.

  I ran forwards and grabbed a girl by the hair. I pulled her back and she rammed into the ground. Her fist flew up and hit my stomach and I kicked her instinctively. She fell unconscious and that's when I felt something ram into me and I was lying on the ground, under a mass of blackness. I felt warm breath and there was a voice in my ear.

  "Hello, chosen one."
