He had sat in the same spot since getting back. Earlier he spoke a few times but now he was just unresponsive.

No matter what Judd did he wouldn't speak.

He wouldn't move.

Maybe he's choosing to not speak?

Of course. Why would he want to talk to me? Kenton said to himself. I've let him down in more ways than one. I can't blame him if he never speaks to me. I deserve his silence.

Although Kenton made up in his mind that he was the reason his son was silent he still tried to get him to talk. "John please say something. Anything."

Kenton's son just sat on the plush couch with one of his bare feet tucked into the cushion. The other was stretched across the couch wrapped in gauze and tape. He was looking out the window as if he was lost in his thoughts.

Kenton pushed the plate of food towards his son. "You barely touched your food. Aren't you hungry?"

He didn't move.

"Did you eat at all while you were...away."

Suprisingly, a smile rose up on John's face. His head turned slowly to face his father. "Away? Is that what you've been calling it?" He smiled looking back at the window. "You make it sound as if it were a . . . vacation."

Kenton thought briefly on what Lucas and his goons did to his son in there and could think of it no more. "I know it was hard for-"

"YOU KNOW NOTHING!" John roared towards his father. Tears which seemed to come from nowhere ran down his red cheek like a stream. "You. Know. Nothing."

*********

"How is he supposed to help us if he can't  talk? What use is he?" The man asked slapping down a black queen.

"He can talk. He's just tramatized. Will ya give him a break! He was locked up in a facility as Lucas' lab rat." The man glanced at the pile of cards in the middle of the table and then back at his hand. "Pass."

"What do you think is going to happen to the BEAU corporation when the boy does talk?"

The man with the scar across his eye, Sam, was sitting in the corner of room cleaning his pistol. "Hopefully, that family's fortune will come crashing down and I'll be able to put a hole in that bastard's head after all."

One of the men looked at Sam confused. "I thought we agreed we aren't going to kill anyone."

"You think I came all this way to not end that monster's life?"

"We agreed to do things by the book! Show the world what he's doing and hand him over to the authorities."

Sam glanced at everyone around the table and smirked. "Hand him over to the authorities? You moron, he owns the authorities! If we don't kill him he'll get away with everything and continue doing what he's doing. Do you want that?"

The man looked at Sam. Confused and not wanting to admit that killing Mr. Lucas Beauton was the only way to stop his mess.

"There has to be another way." He said.

"There isn't! Men like Lucas can't stay alive with the hope that they'll change."

The man looked at the other men around the table who had decided not to argue with Sam. His eyes slowly traveled back to Sam. "As long as I'm not the one with his blood on my hands."

"Trust me, you won't be."

The door to the room opened and Kenton slowly walked out of the room. He shut the door behind him and looked at all the men searching for Sam. When his eyes reached Sam's across the room he nodded his head to the side silently asking for Sam to follow him outside. The men saw the exchange and watched with curiosity as Sam walked with Judd outside.
