On my way to see my sister for the first time in 9 years, was exciting. She’s 20 now. But most of all, I couldn’t wait to start on the house. We would prove everyone wrong! I remember everything. Elie tried to tell me that it wasn’t the house… she said it was something in the attic… and every night, it would come out and mess around in the house and make loud noises, making it seem like it was us. I kinda didn’t believe her until one day while we were outside playing, I peeked into the livingroom from the kitchen slide door and saw someone. An old lady I had never seen before… and she wasn’t my grand-mother or any other relative I’ve seen before.

Pulling into a parking space at the jail, I was even more overwhelmed that I was seeing Elie. I got out of my black BMW and stood on the passenger side, leaning against it with my arms crossed over my chest. I waited for about 3 minutes until I saw her walk out. My little sister. She had grown so much since I’d last seen her. “You’ve changed!.” I said with a smile. Elie had brown hair that came right above her shoulder. Her eye’s were light green blue. My hair is red. My mother had red hair… “Well, you don’t look bad yourself. How are you?” Elie said, as she suffocated me in her best hug. “Yeah… I’m fine. I’m currently in a healthy relationship now.” I said, halfway forgetting to remind her about the promise. “How about some hot chocolate at the old café on Burlington Avenue?” I insisted. Hoping she’d noticed I didn’t want to speak about James. I could see her fighting the urge to ask hundreds of questions about him but she passed. “Sound’s great. Hey, is it okay if I crash at your place? I was debating whether I should ask now or later… I promise I’ll be out asap.” Elie begged, struggling to keep her bag on her shoulder. “I don’t mind at all! you’re family. Might as well just move on in.” I grabbed her suitcase and threw it in the trunk right along with her other things. “I can’t wai-” I started, getting cut off by Elie’s hand grasping my shoulder and turning me to face her. “Hey, look… I’m sorry.” She said. “I don’t understand… everything is fine eli haha.” I started towards the driver’s seat and unlocked the doors for her to also get in. Putting my key in the ignition, I quickly looked out of my window, seeing a flash of something run past the car. Elie must have noticed what I did because she stared at me like I had said the dumbest thing in the world that had made no sense at all. “What?? What did you see? Are you okay Eve?” She asked. “Nothing… Just a stray, that’s all. where were we?” I drove the car quickly down the 3 lane street towards the café.

“No! I said she could stay! End. Of. Discussion. You have no words in this whatsoever. Eli is MY sister and I haven’t seen her since we were young. Since we were 12 or 13 years old James. Grow up.” I said, turning around quickly and leaving James in the bedroom, to return to El. “Everything cool?” She asked, noticing me come into the kitchen, grabbing a mug. “Yup, never better. Just a few kinks to work out but everything is coolio.” I ran my hand across the counter top, brushing bread crumbs off of it. “ I wanted to talk to you about something important…remember that prom-” I got interrupted by Elie getting up and walking up the stairs. This is gonna be one long, restless night… I thought to myself. I ran after her, up the stairs. I knew this would happen. “ Eli? Why don’t yo-” I started, getting cut off once again by her. “ No. I’m… I… I can’t go back. I don’t want to go back. I mean… come on Eve. My first day out? Why so immediate.” She said, sounding agitated and flustered. “ Well because. No one believes us! You saw what happened to mom and dad! Because they didn’t believe us, they got-” “ They got what Eve. C’mon. Say it. Since you obviously know every damn thing.” She spat the words out at me like I was a worthless piece of shit. Finally getting fed up with her unpleasant attitude, I forced the words out, hatred in them. “ We’re going back to the house and that’s final. Like it or not” So intense… “ Why can’t you just forget it? Let it go! Gosh.” I stared at her. “No. But I’m going to bed now… Goodnight.” I walked out, thinking about what she said. “Since you know everything.” We’ll see who know’s everything by tomorrow night.
