"Faith!" Mark, my boyfriend says loudly from beside me, making me jump. I quickly shut the book I have open in my lap. "What are you reading?" I look into his brown eyes.
"My mothers diary. I miss her Mark." I say looking away. He grabs my soft hands in his calloused ones. He runs his thumb over my knuckles.
"It's ok Hun. She's in a better place." Tears blur my vision.
"She was killed in a car crash! It's my fault! I should have been in the passenger seat!" I cry out as my tears cover my cheeks. He pulls me into him and his warm embrace comforts me. "Now I'm stuck here with Nina and my father."
"They love you." I roll my eyes. "They do, Faith" I laugh. "your father loves you. I know he does. You can see it in his eyes." I roll my eyes again.
"Mark, we both know that my dad didn't want me. Mother told me." He shakes his head.
"Have you ever thought that your mother lied to you? That there was something off about her story? About what she told you? About what you remember?" My mind wanders and I find myself remembering the past. Remembering my mother and everything that happened when I was little.
"Don't be scared Fay, you'll be fine" mother says, red liquid in the sink, tears running down her cheeks. "I love you baby."
"Mummy, what are you doing? Do I need to call the hospital again?" She shakes her head quicker than lightning.
"No baby, we'll be fine." Mum falls asleep and I sigh picking up the phone and calling the hospital.
"My mummy's passed out on the floor again. I don't think she's breathing." I say normally at the age of five.
