The year was 1947. The start of the Cold War between the two national super powers at the time, America and Russia. It was the indirect fighting of these two enemies that was killing off thousands of people in the Middle East. All for the greedy want of oil and more power. It also caused Alfred F. Jones and Ivan Braginski to be sneaky and aim to get the trust and loyalty of Dayland aka Charlotte Lebten. Dayland is a country with close ties to the Middle East and had an ample supple of oil at all times. She was also partly in control of how much oil is sold and to whom it's sold. Now Dayland being so close to America gave Alfred the advantage to try and win he over. This is all a power game. This is business. This is war.
"Charlotte, I can tell you're aware of the conflicts that are occurring. If you join forces with me we could become like the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Once our countries merge into one we can take down the commie bastard and the USSR government will collapse. All I need is you, Charlotte." Alfred said seriously with his light blue eyes narrowed as they held a stare at the Daylish woman. Handing her the documents needed to merge he then added "You could save lives with me. You'd be a hero."
"You god damned American bastard. How dare you think I'm foolish enough to join forces with you. You're half the reason people are dying! All because of some power trip game. I'll take no part in it" Charlotte retorted. Anger and hatred filled her dark green eyes making them seem even darker. "You call yourself a hero. You just want to use me. Alfred my country and allies come before anything else. Do you understand that? Can you comprehend the fact that for once you're not going to get your way?" With that she places the documents on his desk and had her back towards him.
"Charlotte, I can give you everything you could ever want." He said forcefully, irritation dripping from his voice. Charlotte stiffened her shoulders.
"American bastard..." Charlotte whispered under her breath as she walked out of Alfred's office. She got into the cab that was waiting for her outside and sighed once she got in the backseat. Thankfully her flight was in 90 minutes and she could be comfortable again in her own country.
Alfred sank into his office chair and ran a hand threw his hair while placing his glasses on his desk. He was frustrated to the max and his cocky smirk turned into an angered frown. He was used to getting what he wanted. Even if he had to fight for it. He glanced over where the Daylish woman sat a few moments ago then back to the documents she left on his desk. "Absolute bullshit..." Alfred groaned as he slammed his fist on the documents. "She'll have to give in eventually. The oil is what even keeps her economy going. No oil, no money, people starve, and she'll beg for help. I'll win this one way or another. A hero will never lose to a commie prick." Alfred sighed again. 'This shit is all your fault, commie bastard' he thought to himself.
-Next Day-
Charlotte awoke in her large bed. She tossed to her side and looked at the clock placed on the nightstand beside her. It was already 10:27am. With a sigh she decided it would be best to get up for the day since it was already so late. She left the warmth of her bed and shivered. It was already December and turning on the heat always seemed to slip her mind. Dressed only in a long white button up shirt and panties the groggily walked to the bathroom which was connected to her master bedroom. She stared blankly into the mirror. Charlotte noticed she had gotten fairly pale looking in the past few months which was probably due to stress. Sighing she got into the shower and went on with her day working on some new laws to be passed.
In a few weeks she was scheduled to have a meeting with Ivan and some officials of the USSR. Which Charlotte wasn't looking forward to at all. Being in Russia alone gave her a sense of unease due to some of the horrible things that were done to Russians and some of the horrible things Russians have done. Ivan used to be one of Charlotte's childhood friends, until he turned very cold and dark and eventually shut Charlotte out. Being that he was a teenager when she was a child she assumed it was just because of the age difference. Until she learned the dark things that had shaped Ivan into who he is today.
Later on Charlotte went to get ready for the night when she reached for her medicine in the mirror cabinet. Antidepressants were something Charlotte had been taking for 2 years now. WW2 had a great affect on her. Germany was her uncle and yet he had done so many terrible things. War was her trigger and Charlotte had gotten worse once this Cold War had started. No one knew Charlotte was on medication or that she was even depressed except for one of her few friends, Canada. Matthew Williams was the only neighboring country she could trust. He'd even check up on her sometimes to make sure she was alright.
After swallowing the pills she looked at herself one last time in the mirror. She looked like a tired mess that was ready to fall apart any second. 'Damn it's such a shame what we turn into...' she thought before crawling into bed. Staring at the ceiling she closed her eyes and thought of what it'd be like to wake up to a better tomorrow. Slowly she drifted into a winter night's slumber.
