Innocence in Forgetfulness

A flash of a knife, her own scream of strife

A bright blinding light and a starburst of pain

Nothing for her was the same again…

She stared wide eyed at them when they found her

Surrounded by pools of bodies and blood

Her mind was a wreck her soul was intact

But all those who had been guarding her were now dead

They had a mind to leave her among the dead

But so young and so innocent—who could but dread

That the killer would find her again

So she followed them because she had no mind not to

Sweetly pressing up against them for protection

Things followed and tried to kill her

The heroes valiantly guarded her

A slam to the head and she went down

Not yet dead but suddenly something found

She felt the lights piercing the backs of her eyes

As the memories came back to her with her sighs

And when she remembered it all so clearly

Suddenly that light in her eyes changed

Once so sweet once so clear, it was cloudy and full of a new kind of fear

They still guarded her knowing the fear and hoping she’d calm

But her fear had only one satisfying balm

She stabbed those she had followed in the backs

They fell without knowing what had attacked

She stood again in pools of blood and bodies

And the killer was alive again.
