What am I doing here?

Ella awoke to the rocking motion of a boat. She kept her eyes closed for a long moment as she tried to remember everything. It took her a minute but she remembered her city being attacked by pirates and then being attacked by a particular pirate. She couldn’t remember a face but she remembered the feeling of his arm against her neck as she passed out.

“Hey ya, girlie. I saw ya stir. Get your ass up,” a gruff voice said from her side.

Ella opened her eyes to glare at the man next to her. It took her a minute to focus her eyes so she could actually see him. He had long, blond, scraggily hair. She resisted the urge to bite her lip nervously as she sat up. “What the hell do you want?” she snapped, trying to sound annoyed and strong but it wavered slightly. It was harder than she thought.

The pirate grinned, showing a missing tooth or two, and raised an eyebrow. “Girlie, it’s what the captain want. Not me. But ya might want to remember, you’re captive on this ship. Welcome to life of the sea,” he said, laughing. It was a chilling sound. At least, for her it was. For another person in another situation it might have not sounded that bad. He leaned back in his seat, watching her curiously.

Ella took the moment to take in her surroundings. She was in a mostly bare cabin. There was the bed that she was laying on plus the chair that the pirate in front of her was sitting on. She could also see a desk but there nothing else in the room. She really was a prisoner.

She almost stood when she noticed a window looking out over the sea. There was a desperate need in her to see outside and she didn’t know why. She always felt a call to the sea but she had never expected to get a chance to be on it. Now that she was on a ship, pirate ship none-the-less, she felt a calling still but now it was desperate calling.

She finally moved over to the window, looking out over the sea. The pirate watched her. “Feel a calling for the sea?” he asked curiously. It was hard to find a girl with a feeling for the sea.

Her head snapped to look at him in surprise. She didn’t think she was that obvious with it. Before she could reply the door opened to her room. Or prison? That was beside the point.

The person who entered the room was a boy of about her age. He was tall and lean but muscular. Probably, it had to do with being a pirate. He had short brown hair and brown eyes. He could easily have been a normal boy. “The captain wants to see her,” he said simply, pretending she wasn’t even there. He glanced over at her as she glared at him. “I wouldn’t suggest ya keep him waiting.” He turned and walked out of the room.

The pirate still in the room laughed at the expression on Ella’s face. “Come on, girlie. Captain’s waitin’,” he said, standing up. He started towards the door, expecting her to follow. “Ya have to come. You don’t get a choice,” he said over his shoulder.

Ella glared at his back and stayed at the window. “And why in the world should I come with you? I’m here against my will and I have no reason to go near you,” she snapped. She wasn’t going to up with the fact that she was prisoner on this boat without a fight.

The pirate rolled his eyes as he walked over and picked her up, slinging her over his shoulder. “Guess I get to carry ya then,” he said, smirking as he walked out of the room and towards the captain, who was standing in near a door. The pirate set Ella down on her feet easily. “There ya go, Captain.” He grinned at the man in front of him.

Ella grimaced as she was set down and took a moment to catch her balance before turning to look up at the man before her. Her mouth fell open in shock. It couldn’t be him…
