Maybe, just for a second, they would forget about the world. For one minute they would stare into eachother's eyes. For one hour they would desipher eachother's thoughts. For a day, they would figure out their feelings. He loved her, god how he loved her. All he wanted was her, from the way she walked to the way she smiled, to the way her smooth but boisterous voice let out words. He desired to call her his. He couldn't think straight around her. All his thoughts muddled around as she would look at him, gently inquiring him to respond to their conversation. She was an angel. She made everything right. She was absolutely perfect.
Why didn't she love him back? What was so different about her from the other girls. Why was she such a mess yet the only definition of reality. Why did everything he do end up hurting her.
"Arietta... don't go this time" he grabbed her hand. He didn't want to let go it just wasn't fair. He felt that if he didn't have her then he'd have nothing to live for.
"Landon. Just let me go, if you really love me then please, just let me go..." tears were swelling up in her eyes. It was obvious she was trying not to choke on her words, for she spoke very meekly and her eyes looked at the floor.
"I can't just let you go! Damn it you're everything to me. Why can't you just love me, huh? What' the hell's wrong with me?"
"There's nothing wrong with you. You're a very attractive man, and if I were any other girl I'd happily fall in love with you... but that's the thing. I'm not any other girl, I'm not looking for love, we're roomates and nothing else. You need to just accept it" her grey eyes began to hold a certain spark "we can never be together." There was a sudden wind storm that made everything stand still for a second. Before his heart could break he finally understood. He was almost shaking in disbelief.
"You're.. a witch?!" he fell to his knees holding his hands to his head shaking. He was dizzy and there was a strange pain in his stomach. His eyes flashed from their regular baby blue to a sparkling gold. His hair from chestnut to a silvery white with a golden strand. He felt powerful, different, and a sense of protection towards the young witch. "What.. What the hell am I?" he inquired while losing himself in pure shock.
"You're my guardian. You have the strength to protect me and resemble an ancient Greek god. You were never in love with me... those were you're confused feelings to initially protect me. You have the ability to mask my scent and sense harm. My life... is in your hands" Arietta dropped to her knees cupping her guardians face. She felt guilty for him not knowing all this time, so to make it up to him she gave him a kiss on the cheek. Arietta then began to explain in detail about what exactly is going on.
"How do I transform back...?"
"Sheer willpower, you choose when to transform"
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"Your parents, when they were still alive, has forbid us to tell you until you transformed on your own for the first time. They didn't want you to grow up feeling like a freak. They were the guardians of my parents, but unfortunatly lost their lives in the corrupt war between white and black magic."
"I thought you were the only child to turn out not to be a witch..."
"I'm an elementist, I represent the wind, or air. That's why they sent me to be safe and fit in. They sent me with the strongest guardian, and that's you!"
"I see. While they train Echo with fire magic, you've been with me here on the downlow. Geez Arietta I'm sorry about everything..." She felt guilty and suddenly embraced him. At first he was shocked but hugged back almost imediantly with a slight smile. He caught the scent of her skin; she always smelled of vanilla. Everything about her was comforting to him, but these are just guardian instincts right? He doesn't actually love her, for he's just meant to protect her.
"It's my fault. I'm so sorry Landon..." she hugged him tighter feeling relieved in his embrace. He soothingly rubbed her back until he noticed her breathing begin to slow and her body become heavy. She had fallen asleep. Landon carried her to her room, tucking her into bed and gave a genuine smile. His smile soon faded, and he sighed while giving her forehead a quick peck. He soon returned back to his own bed for some well deserved sleep.
