Prologue - The Sisters

Her name was Verte.

Ok, that's a funny name. Well, she didn't chose it, of course. Geneticians found that really fun that it was her hair colour. Like it was for her sister, Rose. Her little sister. They were different and similar all the same, as could be real sisters made naturally. Rose had really long hair, tinted with a really pale beige colour, running to her calves for her longuest parts, with furnished bangs falling in her deep blue eyes and two braids around her face. She tried to refrain her hair from going all over her by tying it in the middle, but it wasn't really that efficient.

Verte, on her side, had short green hair, really short, with long bangs arouns her face and neck, she had this habit to keep her shorter parts in place with old customised mortorbike glasses. Her eyes were slightly darker than her hair, but appart from these details, the two sisters were perfectly identical, even with their six years appart.

Oh Yeah. Geneticians.

Well, making children by natural ways ceased to be the trend since two millenars. Moreover, adults that would have been parents in old times wouldn't have been able to deal with the children's education. Because in this world where science and magic worked together, the inhabitants were unfortunately faced with "failed trials". Hundreds of thousands of failed attempts. Adults were working, saving their lives, and  falling in love like perfectly normal human beings.

Thus, these geneticians' jobs were to pick cells to benevolent "genitors" to control births, birth rates, and magic rates in each city. Not everyone was born with powers, far from that. But each city had to reach a certain amount of percentage of mages to be safe. Two genitors, having helped greatly with the city's safety, were granted a second donation. Their first mixing of genes had resulted in Verte's birth, and the second was Rose. Two mixing with the same donators was extremely rare, as chances to mix up twice were awfully low with the high numbers of donators and the random mixing system. Verte and Rose were strictly monitored "specimens" since Rose's birth. Even more when they discovered that the two sisters had ... strange powers.
