Well i wasn't going to do this but Space was a hoe so here y'all go

Space's POV

I gathered all my book in my bag as class was wrapping up. I was only paying half attention as the teacher rattled off the long list of assignments over the weekend. One thought had been occupying my head since the beginning of class: our partners for our eighth grade project. My partner was the sole person I was begging it not to be: Kailie. Kailie had convinced her whole posse, Clara, Kara, Ava, and Chloe, that my mere existence was an inconvenience  to the world, and that everything I did was taboo. It was especially awkward with the feeling I had harbored since sixth grade still stuck in my head. My mind was wrapped in thought as I walked out of fifth period, oblivious to the voices calling my name for me to wait up, and apparently also oblivious to Kara until I almost ran over her. "Sorry!" I sputter out quickly, getting only a dirty glance in return.

"Maybe you should watch where you're going, Space," an unknown observer called out. I recognized that voice and turned to face her with venom in my eyes.

"Maybe you shouldn't be a whole bitch over one mistake," I hotheadedly replied. A few gasps were heard from my language but people had more important things to worry about than Kailie and I's squabble. Kailie narrowed her eyes and came over to me.

"Three o'clock today, in the courtyard,"

"What?" I asked incredulously, a Godforsaken butterfly floating in my stomach.

"For the project, obviously," Kailie said coolly, rolling her eyes for extra effect.

"Oh," the one butterfly was now crushed, thank goodness. "Okay, sounds good," but Kailie was already walking away, where Ava was waiting. Clara and Chloe had already gone to lunch. It always was Kailie and Ava, wasn't it? Not that I cared, of course. Just an observation, right? Right. Of course.

Time Skippp

It was two fifty, and my steps to the courtyard were getting continuously slower. Don't let her worry you. I suddenly heard a voice calling my name and looked up to see Eva waving me down.

"Hey!" Eva said perkily, quickly noticing my sullen expression, she changed her tone. "Everything alright?"

"I have to meet up with Kailie, we're partners for the project," I said with a slight groan.

"Isn't that good?" Eva questioned with a wink. She was currently the only person that knew about my sold crush on Kailie.

"You seriously think I still like her?" I replied, my faced morphed into a look of disgust.

"I'd believe you didn't if you weren't blushing right now," Eva smirked, then pushed me away. "Here we are, good luck, Romeo"

"I hate you," I muttered under my breath.

"As much as you hate Kailie?" Eva teased with a small smile on her face. I flipped her off before trying to find Kailie. It didn't take very long, Ava's loud snort could be heard across the yard. I looked over at the pair of them giggling, not that I cared of course, not that I felt a little hot burst of pain in my chest, not at all.

"Romeo my ass," I murmured, getting strange looks from others around me. I ignored them and shuffled over to Kailie and Ava, waiting for them to notice me. Ava did first and, instead of her usual glare, offered me a light smile. I mirrored her action with confusion splayed across my face. I took my seat across from Kailie and Ava started walking away. If I had picked up my head a second earlier, I would have seen Ava mouth "Juliet" to Kailie.

"So, what's your plan? Like what do you want to do?" Kailie said, biting her lip while thinking of ideas. Damn, she has nice li- "What if we like did something on WWll. It has so much history." I was busy staring at her hair, the way it curled lightly at the ends. I wonder if I could do that to mine. "SPACE!" Kailie yelled, clapping her hands in front of my face. "Take a picture, it will last longer. I didn't know what to remark and just stared awkwardly for a minute.

"So World War two, uh, yeah I like that," I stuttered, pausing to collect myself, I continued. "I like that a lot, what if we made a timeline or something." Kailie nodded, eyes sparkling like they did when she was excited, not that I payed much attention, I just happened to notice. We continued to discuss the project, giggling and smiling at each other's jokes  and ideas. This is the Kailie I like- liked. Liked of course.

Time Skip

Kailie and I had gotten closer and she and her posse had finally stopped hating me. I had finally gathered up the courage to ask her why they had for half the year. Our project was nearly done and we only had one more time scheduled to work on the project.

When Kailie finally arrived I took a deep breath and prepared to ask me question. I knew I would be too scared to if I waited. "Kailie?"

"Yeah?"

"I have something I need to ask you." I stall, thinking of how to word it.

"Yeah?" she repeated, an almost hopeful? look blooming on her face.

"Uh, why did you hate me so much at the beginning of the year?" I blurt out, not being able to stop myself. Kailie looks at me with an unreadable expression.

"I never hated you, I just disliked you," she said with a wry smile. I looked at her to elaborate and she took a deep breath.

"So Clara had this thing where she thought she was this relationship genius. And I kinda sorta liked you and asked her for advice, and she told me I should act like I hated you, and got everyone in on it. And when it wasn't working I ended it, the first day of the project to be exact. So I like you, uh, I know you hate me but that's fine. Really it is, I understand-"

"Kailie!" I cut her off before she started truly rambling. "I like you, too, so stop worrying. Even though I really hated your plan." Kailie grinned at me and I smiled back. What do I do now? Should I kiss her? I had only kissed one girl before, someone named Claire at a party. Was that good? Should I do that? What if I'm a bad kisser? Kailie interrupted my thought by giving me a hug. She quickly pulled back and smiled shyly at me.

"So... the project?"

"Yeah, that, we should do that," I agreed and caught her eye. She winked at me before going to get supplies. It's a good thing she left before she could see the bright red blush lighting up my cheeks.
