Marceline Anne was humming with anger.

Principal Adams shook his head at the bruised and bloody teen before him. "I'm very disappointed in you, Dr. Chang. Your suspension has been extended to two weeks. Please collect your homework from your classes and do not step foot on campus until May."

"Yes, sir." Malcolm mumbled.

"You're dismissed. I'm sorry, Mrs. Dr. Chang."

"So am I." Marceline Anne stood.

Malcolm stood, too and they left the educator's office. As soon as the door shut, he tried to apologize. "I'm sorry!"

She whipped around. "You promised you wouldn't fight anymore!"

"I wasn't going to but he said-!"

"I don't care what he said!"

He deflated. "I'm sorry."

She fought off tears. "Yeah, you are."

He watched her walk away from him with a heavy heart.

"Dad, she's really mad at me." Malcolm spoke into his phone as Marceline Anne took a shower- without him.

Michael the Third snickered.

"Dad, are you laughing at me?!" Malcolm was blown away.

Michael outright laughed. "Yes."

"Why?!"

"You told your sister to fight and she got in trouble. Now you know how it goes."

"Dad, Madeline has been having problems with Talia for years. We just told her to stick up for herself. I defended my wife's honor. Why am I in trouble?"

Michael was silent for a moment. "I don't disagree. About Madeline or Marceline Anne. I'm not saying I condone violence but I did want you to defend yourselves for a reason. Growing up, I had to fight. I wanted you safe."

Malcolm was surprised. "You fought?"

"Yes. Many times."

"Does Mom know?"

Michael was quiet again. "Yes."

Malcolm had a sneaking suspicion. "Did you fight over Mom?"

"Yes."

"Did she like it?"

"No." Michael's tone was dramatic to show exactly how displeased his wife had been.

"So if I tell her what I did, she'll be disappointed?"

"Perhaps. Perhaps not."

A spark lit up in Malcolm. "Are you saying she grew to like it?"

It was clear Michael was biting back words. "In a manner of speaking."

"So Marceline Anne will move past this?" Malcolm grew excited.

"Your mother and your wife are too different women, son."

Malcolm deflated. "I don't know what to do. She won't talk to me and with the baby shower tomorrow, I'm scared she won't be in a good mood. I want her to enjoy it."

"I'll have your mother look out for her."

"Thanks, Dad."

"You're welcome, son."

M-

Marceline Anne was angry with Malcolm but didn't want anyone to know it. She had family in town and so did he. She wasn't about people being in her business so she put on a happy smile when she left the master suite.
