The Green Bay Packers were organized on August 11,1919 in the editorial rooms of the old Green Bay press gazette building.The team was sponsored by the Indian packing company and that is where the name Packers comes from.Curly Lambeau was named captain of the team and George Whitney Calhoun was the team manager. Lambeau was a former star at east high school and played for Notre Dame in 1918.Lambeau had dropped out of school and began working for the Indian packing company.On August 27,1921 the Acme packing company had purchased the Indian packing company.The packers first season in the NFL they signed lineman Howard "Cub" Buck,a veteran player from the Canton Bulldogs,they finished with a winning record(3-2-1)
