Marceline Anne jumped up and down as Karen approached the rival team's goalpost. "Teddy Bear, KayBee! Teddy Bear!"

Karen heard her over the roar of adrenaline and the crowd and performed the power move she and her bestie had spent countless hours working on, the Teddy Bear. She kicked the ball up high, did a triple axel then kicked the ball into the net.

The goalie dove but it was too high for her to reach and the ball hit the back of the goal.

Washington Prep won!

The girls all lined up to tell each other good game before the Washington Prep Panthers came over to celebrate with Coach Dante and Marceline Anne. "We won!"

Marceline Anne and Karen hugged tightly. "We won!"

Karen leaned back. "Next year, it'll be your goal and we'll lift you up like you deserve."

Marceline Anne looked at her softly.

Karen realized what she'd said and nearly started crying.

Marceline Anne hugged her. "You are my sunshine."

Karen sniffled. Marceline Anne always sang that to her when she was feeling lousy. To have her sing it when she was the one in trouble really messed with Karen's head.

"Guys?!" A forward by the name of Lynn Crest ran over. "Why are you alone?! We're going out for Chinese to celebrate ‪before tomorrow‬'s ceremony! Let's go!"

Marceline Anne grinned and pulled the still sullen Karen behind her. "Go Panthers!"

M-

"Are you sure you want to go?" Malcolm asked as he rubbed his wife's back gently as she threw up in the sink. "I'm sure your team will understand."

"This is the last time I'll see my team." Marceline Anne explained between hurling. "I'm going to miss them."

He said nothing at first. "I'll go get you some Ginger."

"Thank you!"

He left.

She rinsed out her mouth and spit before brushing her teeth over. It was hell throwing up from being pregnant and being sick. She'd taken to carrying a bucket with her everywhere.

When he came back, she felt human again but took the piece of Ginger to chew on. It was hella strong but she was hella sick.

Both finished getting ready to put on their clothes then went to do so. Both were wearing dark blue.

They dressed and left the house to go to the lodge, where the soccer banquet was being held.

They made it in time and went inside. Everything was gold stars and soccer balls with patches of fake grass.

He escorted her to their seats and they sat down. Before long, Karen and Chase showed up. They sat down and the foursome began talking about the last game.

Other girls began showing up, along with the coaches, the sports director and the principal.

Lights dimmed and a highlights reel of all the games and practices from the season ran. People laughed at different ones and many people cried, especially the girls that were graduating.

The principal began announcing awards and each girl got at least one, until he got to Marceline Anne. He named her assistant coach, most valuable player and best spirited. Then he gave her a trophy that the team had decided on without telling her; Team Mom.

Marceline Anne was dangerously close to crying as her teammates urged her to go up onstage and make a speech. She went up there and looked out into the crowd. Even though she'd aced her public speaking course, she still hated speaking in public but as she looked out at all the smiling faces, her heart beat erratically.
