Skylar (Edited)

I hate my life. A lot. And I've felt this way since Werewolves became dominant in our society by making one of their own King. He dominated the world using Lords, that served him and ruled different parts of the world to make sure everyone submitted to the ultimate authority.

I was appalled when world got to the point where the werewolves rule. All these superhero movies made it seem like the good guys always win. The humans, in my case, were the good guys. But the menacing, murdering wolves won.

When the werewolves first made themselves known in 2001, both humans and weres lived together peacefully. After a couple of months, humans started to get killed by animals. Of course, we knew it wasn't just any animal, it was a werewolf. There weren't that many animal attacks until the werewolves revealed themselves.

This caused the humans to fear the werewolves. And the weres used this to their advantage.

It started small. A few dead humans here and there. Usually wouldn't even make it to the big newstations.

But then the attacks happened more frequently. Joggers were getting attacked. People going camping. Just random people. But people nonetheless.

In February of 2005, there were 100 human deaths caused by werewolves California alone.

It was then humans decided they were willing to do anything to be safe.  They started working for those wolves. The pups even! My ego wouldn't allow me to work for someone younger than me. But I guess most people put their ego aside in order to stay alive.

What about the president, you ask?

April 27, 2007, he was murdered by a wolf. The newspaper said that he was drunk, went out late at night and got mauled by some animal.

''Some animal'' my ass.

After the president was murdered, the United States government collapsed. The Vice President resigned, and we entered a very temporary anarchy. A useless one. The few uprisings that were held were quickly dismantled by strong werewokves, therefore accomplishing nothing. And no human wanted to be president if there was a 99.99% chance of being murdered.

Honestly, I don't know how people could be so cowardly. If I was old enough, I'd definitely try to become president.

But, since I'm not old enough to apply to become president, and no one else has the guts to, we have a King.

A werewolf King.

He's the most ruthless and evil, and the last person I ever wanted to come in contact with.

And he hates humans! So you can just imagine how many laws were out there to benefit us! None!

The king ripped the Constitution. It was all over the news.  He made all new laws that officially established his rule and the werewolves high position in society, and the worst one was this...

AT THE AGE OF 16, ALL HUMANS MUST GET ASSIGNED A WEREWOLF PACK TO WORK FOR

I'm pretty sure this is the law I hate more than anything in the world.

Except for the King.

And you won't believe how much he favors the wolves, since he is one.

I've kept track, using multiple sources, and I've figured out that he's killed about 1,000 humans in three months.

And guess how many werewolves he killed in three months?

Ten.

Just ten!

But most of these humans were humans that killed a wolf.

Yeah, there were others out there just like me and my family, but there wasn't many. They wanted revenge. A fight for their rights.

Those humans that killed a wolf were sent to the King himself. No one knew what he did but his Beta and Third-in-command. Also known as his Pack.

Yep, they are the strongest wolves in the world. They've killed up to a 300 person pack all by themselves.

Another reason people fear werewolves.

Okay, enough about his pack, let's talk about how unfair he is.

If a werewolf kills a human, they are deemed as a good person. They don't get arrested, or fined or anything of the sort. At least not to my knowledge.

"What are you thinking about?" My mom asks, entering my room without knocking. I try to tell her that I'm seventeen and need privacy, but she never gets it through her mind.

"Things," I say cryptically, not wanting to tell her that I'd been thinking about how I totally hate my life.

We live in a cabin in the middle of the woods for God's sake! And I've seen the horror movie.

I live with my mom and dad. My mom thought it would be selfish to raise another child in a world like this, so I have no siblings.

The world became like this just months before I was born.

Yep, this is life as I know it. Hiding because I don't want a Receiver to get me. Those are the people who take the teens away to work for the wolves.

Mom sighs, and I notice that even with all the stress she's gone through, she still manages to look beautiful. She had short black hair with blue eyes and tan skin. Her name was Rebecca, but, to me, she looked like an Alyssa.

She works at a local hospital and apparently has no kids. Of course because she's a human she has a lower position, dealing with minor injuries and handling files, but every now and then she scrubs in on a surgery.

I am a secret. No one knows I exist except for my mom, dad, aunt and only friend, Cairo. She's just like me, hiding to stay safe.

Mom somehow found a way to get out of work when she was pregnant, then went back to the same job so things wouldn't get too. . . suspicious.

She's 39, but to me, she looks like she's 30.

"I know sweety, that this isn't the best life, but it will change soon," she says.

I have a feeling she was trying to convince herself more than she was trying to convince me.

"Yeah, you're right," I lie, smiling a little. "I'm really tired, and I did my homework. . ."

I was homeschooled, Monday through Saturday. My mom made sure to keep me smart.

"Yeah, okay. Have a good night, honey," she says, then shuts the door.

I sigh, then switch off my light. I was tired, but I didn't do my homework.

At least not all of it.

Okay so this is just a filler to explain some things.

Trust me, the chapters get longer and way better.
