The Library was dark and full of the smell of books. The shelves stretched up to the three-story ceiling. The books were a mixture of new and old, and many languages that Aurora could not understand lined the spine of various books. Aurora breathed slowly, unwilling to break the soft silence of the room. She walked in slowly, letting the fingertips of her hand lightly brush the covers of the books she passed. Her eyes were big and wide, 'this Library was incredible, I can feel the magic emanating off the books and filling the room,' Aurora began to smile as she ventured further into the room.
"Hello, Do you need something, Princess?" The man appeared out of nowhere seeming to step out of the very shelves, themselves. Aurora almost fell to the floor and it took all her strength to not release the shriek that welled up inside her. She lightly gripped her fancy dress and taking a few deep breathes while the man watched on, amused and not at all guilty.
"Yes, actually. I would like to meet with the Royal magic scholars, please," Aurora did her best and most well-mannered smile. The man flipped his shoulder length ponytail over one pierced ear. His rugged, casual appearance morphed into a smirk. He leaned forward making use of his five foot eight size to tower over Aurora.
"And why should I do that, hon? Just cause your father is the king does not mean you have permission to annoy the royal scholars from their work. I bet your just a spoilt little brat like those other nobles wanting to lord your powers over commoners like us. Look, you even have your power out and suppressing me at this age. I guess I should be surprised or praise you, right? Well honey, not gonna happen." The man folded his arms and gave her an arrogant smirk. Aurora's brows knitted. She did not know what she had ever done to offend this man but whatever it was, he was not letting her to see the Royal Scholars.
"Excuse me, mister. But my purpose is not to bother the Royal Scholars in their work. It is to ask them to listen to a quick proposal of mine," she steeled herself from his superior gaze, "I wish to ask them to tutor m...." Aurora looked up at the guys intake then coughing, he looked extremely surprised.
She steeled herself to hear the same pitch from him about nobles children. But all she heard was a small sigh, "Follow me, Princess." He proceeded to walk away through the bookshelves.
He walked past many different novels, and brought her to a dead end of the library. Aurora looked around, panicked when realising how easy it would be for the guy to attack her. The man internally sighed; he could feel her magic rise. Rolling his eyes with his back turned, he projected his magic forth and summoned the door.
Aurora's eyes widened. Without her noticing, a door had appeared in the wall. The man walked and confidently opened the door, ushering her through. Aurora's eyes widened and her mouth gaped open. She could feel the magic of the room surround her. It glared bright of several surfaces and a small wooden doll walked around the room. The man walked forth and, unnoticed by Aurora, his expression softened at her childish excitement.
"Please, take a seat," The man gestured towards a blue seat in front of an oak-mahogany desk. Aurora still in shock at the magic in the room sat quickly. The man walked behind the desk and sat down with his elbows resting on the desk while his hands sat under his chin. "Now, Princess. I have been wondering the reason that you really came to visit me today," At her confused expression, he laughed, "Silly me, I forgot to introduce myself. I am the Head Royal magic Scholar, Verspar Lottingram. And I still believe based on how you are sending out your magic, that there is no way you could want someone like myself to teach you." Aurora was shocked; this was not what she was expecting. 'I cannot believe that he is Verspar Lottingram. But then again he has not lead the army in an astounding victory against the kingdom of Birandon yet either.' Aurora's brow furrowed.
She breathed in, frustrated that this was not going to plan. "I apologise for my magic. As you can see I have no control over it and would like to be able to do so. There is no one better in the palace to teach a person magic as the Royal Magic Scholars. So I came hoping to learn from your experience and proficiency in magic. Rank or status had no impact on that situation." Aurora looked up at the man across the desk, hoping he would accept her proposition.
Verspar's mind whirled with the information. He took his elbows off the table. He was still suspicious but since he was the royal scholar he could not refuse a potential apprentice without a good reason. He sighed, "fine you will be a trial student but believe me princess," he leaned over the top of Aurora. She stared into his eyes holding her breath and waiting. He smirked again, "I will not give you any special privileges even though you are royalty." Aurora looked at him and smiled.
What a relief. I cannot believe it. It is working. With this I should be able to learn how to use my magic, the only hurdle is that I just have to convince him to let me continue being his apprentice. Aurora looked at the surprisingly ragged and almost pirate-like dressed man, "So, what's your first task for me, teacher?" He seemed to roll his eyes. "None of that, ya highness. You call me Vespar and I will call you Aurora, cool. Your job is to dust off rows one, two and three of bookshelves by tomorrow." Aurora felt her knees collapse out from under her.
"That is impossible. It is already one o'clock in the evening, there is no way I can get it done!" Aurora stood quickly.
"Well time is only ticking. Better get going, AURORA." He smiled and ushered her out the door of his office.Aurora could not believe it. She sighed. This is too important. I have to learn how to control my magic so I must do this task. She gritted her teeth to contain tears. I am only three years old. There is no way my body can handle this. She none the less still grabbed the duster sitting near the front desk and headed over towards the ginormous bookshelves labelled 1, 2 & 3.
