It's been awhile since you first summoned the Laguz here, and it's taken some getting used to. You had always read about them in books, but you never thought you'd ever get to see one in person, let alone summon them here.
The first Laguz you summoned here was the King of Phoenicis, Tibarn. Needless to say, you were quite speechless. His presence did everything to intimidate you to impress you. From his tall stature to his large majestic wings, you found it hard to find any words. But eventually, you adjusted to standing next to someone half your size to talk about battle strategies.
Among talking about strategies, you gained the courage to ask him about Phoenicis and Laguz in general. From the moment you summoned him here, you've always wanted to know more. There was only so much information a book could tell you, and Tibarn seemed more than happy to share it.
However, This wasn't just exclusively Laguz talk. In turn, you'd also tell Tibarn about your world back home. Sometimes you'd find yourself rambling on and on about mundane things, but Tibarn didn't seem to mind. When you'd break from your trance and frantically start apologizing, he'd only laugh and tell you to keep going. It was during these moments that you felt you had someone you could truly trust.
This brought you to now. Months had passed and you now relied on Tibarn more than you'd like to admit. But who could complain? He's had years of war experience when you've had literally none. Who wouldn't want the Hawk King on there side?
Laying in a grassy field, you stared up at the fluffy clouds that dotted the sky. You twisted the clouds into unique shapes and enjoyed the cool breeze that passed by. It was rare you ever got and opportunity to relax like this and you wanted to savor every second of it. Your hood was off, too; an even rarer sight. But it was nice to bath in the sun's warm rays every once and a while.
You lifted you hand into the air and felt the wind graze across it. It was so cool and refreshing; you wish you could feel like this forever. You wish you could float along the breeze, like a rogue leaf, and forget all your worries.
Suddenly, a shadow cast over you for a brief second. You thought it strange since the clouds seemed faraway from the sun. Your answer soon came when and even bigger shadow loomed over you.
"What are you doing all the way out here, summoner?" Tibarn stood leaning over you. You quickly stood up, slightly embarrassed he caught you off guard.
"Nothing. Just wishing the wind would carry me away," you said, but immediately regretted your words. It sounded cooler in your head...
"Work's weighing you down again, I see," he said while crossing his arms.
"Yeah," you huffed, not knowing what else to say. You looked up at Tibarn, expecting him to say something else, when a smirk appeared on his face.
"I think I have an idea," he trailed off.
Whatever this idea was, you were now starting to worry. Tibarn and the word "idea" didn't always end well, especially if you were the enemy.
"Close your eyes," he asked, sounding more like an order. Hesitatingly, you obeyed.
"Now," He paused for a moment, pondering again. Your pulse quicken out nerves. "Do you trust me?"
The question almost made you laugh.
"Trust you? Tibarn! How many times have I relied on you to save me -and the others- from certain death?" You blurted out honestly. You heard a faint chuckle from Tibarn as he confirmed.
"I Guess you're right," you heard him agree. Suddenly, with your eyes still closed, you felt Tibarn pick you up into his arms in what felt like bridal style. You let out a small "eep!" as Tibarn reassured you and reminded you to keep your eyes closed.
"T-Tibarn! What are you doing?!" You squeaked and awkwardly clung to him.
"Relax, I just picked you up. You're fine," He soothed.
With your eyes still closed, you had to feel your way around until you found his neck. You then slowly wrapped your arms around him and settled into the position.
"Are you done feeling me now?" Tibarn teased. You felt your face immediately heat up as your fumbled to defend yourself. If you could only see the smirk on his face.
"You're the one who told me to close my eyes!" You retorted.
"Yes I did, and keep them closed," he reinforced.
You sighed as your eyes remained closed.
"You still trust me, right?" Tibarn double checked. You nodded with an "mmhm" and within seconds, Tibarn took off into the air with you in his arms.
"Oh my gods, oh my gods!" were the only words you could get out of your mouth as you tighten your grip around Tibarn, screeching. You knew this wasn't a good idea...
"Y/n! Calm down! I got you! And please stop screaming, you'll blow my ears out," he shushed. You stopped your yelling, but it didn't take away the fear of being in mid air.
"Tibarn!" You whined and buried your head into his chest. You were slightly shaking now, and you knew you wouldn't hear the end of teasing from him later.
"Y/n, Have I ever let you down before?" Tibarn asked earnestly, pun not intended. He was right; you've trusted him so many other times before, why not now?
Slowly, you peaked your head out and allowed the wind to caress your cheeks. You opened one eye, then the other, and when you gazed off upon the earth below you, you were utterly speechless.
You and Tibarn soared high above Askr, taking in wonderful nature scapes. You saw the Castle in the distance and watched as heroes appeared like tiny ants on the ground. You were absolutely at a lost for words.
"Amazing, isn't it? It's a shame beorc like you can't enjoy things like this more often, if at all," Tibarn filled in the silence for you. You couldn't help but smile at the way he called you a beorc. You had learned from him that laguz call humans beorcs, and if they do call you a human, they're probably not going to be friendly...
The smile on your face grew when you looked back up at him.
"Thank you, Tibarn," you spoke sincerely. Now it was his turn to smile. He gave you an acknowledging nod and continued to glide through the air.
"See, (y/n). Isn't this so much better than lying on the ground? It's a miracle you even managed to get out of your study," he continued.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" You sassed. "I spend time outside of my study."
"Eating meals and walking to and from the library isn't spending time outside your study," Tibarn countered. You sighed and rolled your eyes. Leave it to Tibarn to call you out for working so hard.
"I'm just doing my job," you retorted. "I'm everyone's tactician, after all! If I don't-"
"That's exactly my point. You're our tactician, and if you're sick from overworking yourself, then what are we to do?" Tibarn cut you off. You could think of few alternatives if you ever got sick, but you decided now wasn't the best time to bring them up.
"You push yourself to the brink of exhaustion at times. Hell, (y/n), if I ever get to see you, you ask me about strategies. I think I've attended more meetings here than I have back in Tellius," Tibarn rambled on.
You sat slightly disgruntled in Tibarn's arms as his grip on you became tighter. Again, he was right. You hated to admit it, but you did tend to spend just a little too much time working.
"Fine," you sighed. There was no point in arguing with him, especially when you were hundreds of feet off the ground. "I'll try to find time to get out of my study and relax."
"No, there's no trying. Do it," he stressed. You let out a dramatic groan.
"What are you? My mother?" You joked, resuming the playful energy from before.
"I feel like it sometimes," he cocked a smile and let out a hearty laugh. "But I'm not putting you down until you promise me you'll get out of your dark and dusty study."
"It's not dusty!" You shouted, offended. Tibarn chuckled again, but looked at you with a new found sternest in his eyes.
"I'm serious, (y/n). You're going to spend time outside of that study, even if it means I have to drag you out, myself," he vented on.
     "Really?" You pushed.
"I wouldn't test me, Summoner," The sudden drop in Tibarn's voice sent a shiver down your spine. You could only hope he didn't notice it.
"I promise," you began. "But on one condition."
"What is it?" Tibarn huffed, his patience wearing thin.
"We get to do this more often," You chimed. Tibarn's smile appeared once more.
     "Deal."
Silence took its hold again, but neither of you cared. The scenery around you spoke in volumes. Why ruin it with mindless chatter?
You snuck looks up at Tibarn, trying to make sure he didn't see you in the process. It was nice to see this side of him. Sure, he just scolded you like a child for overworking yourself, but it meant he cared. Now he was just as calm as before.
Your eyes traced the outline of the scar on his face. You could hardly imagine what could have happened to him that resulted in such a mark. You quickly pulled your eyes away before Tibarn could catch you; although apart of you thought he already did.
"Hey (y/n)," Tibarn spoke up again. You perked up and mumbled a "hm?"
"Do you still trust me?" He asked again.
"Tibarn, we've been over this," you trailed off.
"Alright, alright, just checking," he finished and the silence proceed.
And without warning, Tibarn dropped.
He didn't drop you, but it was more like he dropped himself. He held onto you closer and tighter than before, all while spinning head-first down towards the ground.
You had hardly anytime to react. The first thing you did other than scream was cling even closer to Tibarn than you had before. Your screams intermingled with his boisterous laughter as you further plummeted toward the earth.
"Tibarn! This isn't funny!! Tibarn!!!!" You shrieked. Your face was positioned where it was before, buried in his chest. You were far too terrified to look out and see just how close you were to the ground.
Just as quickly as you had dropped, you felt lifted again. Whipping your head around, you saw Tibarn had resumed flying. You didn't realize how fast your heart was beating until now. Tibarn was still snickering, and you immediately erupted.
"Tibarn! What was that?!" You yelled. "It's not funny!"
"I just thought you needed a little excitement," he grinned.
"Excitement?! That wasn't excitement, that was a heart attack!" You continued to fume.
"I know, that was a little mean of me," he admitted. "But you have to agree. It was a little fun."
"Yeah, I love plummeting at high speeds to my certain death," you snarked. Tibarn brushed off your sarcasm and slowly descended towards the ground.
He gently set you down on your feet and landed next to you. You were only a short walk from the castle, and the sun was much lower in the sky than before. Time flies when you're, well, flying.
"Let's go home, (y/n), it's getting late," he said as he guided your steps. The sun was beginning to set. You sighed, not wanting this evening to be over, but you begrudgingly nodded. Tibarn took your hand in his and gave it a firm squeeze, making you look up at him.
"Hey, don't look so depressed," he caught onto your glum attitude. You hoped the red flush that you felt spread across your cheeks would appear as shading from the setting sun. His hand was so much bigger than yours, and warm, too. You gave him a more confident nod this time allowed yourself to be escorted back to the castle by the Hawk King.
"Don't worry, we'll do this again," he assured. "And this time, I'll promise."
