Chapter - 11

Friends

This awakening to our deepest self is not for later, it’s for now.

“Here you go!” Naina handed the cup to Dhruv and he breathed in the warmth of the green tea. The fresh fragrance alone cleared his mind and got him comfortable as he sat on the couch. Naina sat with him swirling the tea in her cup and Dhruv watched her gazing at the dancing liquid in the cup with wonderment. Moments like these happen a lot of times when he is around Naina. Staring at her he just forgets for a while where he is or what are his surroundings. The breezes flowing in from the open window in the hall played with her hair that she had clipped at the sides but a few tresses disrespectfully escaped from the metallic hold and tickled her cheeks. A slow smile spread on her face as she chuckled lightly.

“You know what Dhruv? When I am looking at small things like these,” she eyed the swirling tea in her cup, “I feel so blessed to have the gift of sight. When I had no vision I would have missed out on so many beautiful Moments like these no!” She smiled wider now, her eyes still looking at the cup.

“Hmm” Dhruv smiled gazing intently at her as she raised the cup to her lips and took a sip. The wind blew again and her hair flew back as now her face was directed towards the window bathed in the sunshine.

Dhruv suddenly remembers something and laughed lightly in good humor.

“What?” Naina asked in surprise, wanting to know the reason behind his laugh.

“You look like the girl from a TVC of some Lipton or Tazza tea”, he winked at her and then took a sip of his tea.

She laughed and Dhruv smiled back at her, realizing how sweet she sounded to him.

“Oh really?”, Naina narrowed her eyes at him with a glint of mock, “Dhruv, do you even have the time to watch the TV?”

“I used to watch TV daily back in Guwahati, it is only now that my life’s turned upside down.” Dhruv eyed Naina seeking a reaction from her but all he saw was excitement.

“You're from Guwahati?” Naina asked. She knew Dhruv would tell her today, she could feel the vibe that today was his day to share some of the things from his life. He had time to watch tv back then but not anymore. She knew she was going to step closer into his life and therefore she needed to take this slowly for his benefit before he closes up again.

“Yeah, I grew up there, lived so many years up until last year I had to shift here in Mumbai.”

He told her. Dhruv was taking small steps into the matter because he wanted her to understand but at the same time didn't intend to burden her.

“Why shift?”

“Jessica” he said, his voice thick with emotions. “After she was gone, no place gave me comfort and especially Guwahati where her memories was all I could see and feel. I was going insane Naina,” he paused and she could see the shadows of those hard days in his eyes as he frowned and remembered himself, “and then I met you that day in the graveyard, saw her eyes in you and it had gotten harder for me to escape the claws of my incomplete love life. It haunted me like crazy, I didn't know what to do. I just wanted to leave every place that we had ever been together.”

Dhruv’s eyes dropped below to the cup in his hand and Naina have him some time to collect his emotions watching him in concern.

“It’s hard to lose the only person in your life.” He said lowly and Naina raised her hand to touch his shoulders, giving him some comfort. His gaze met hers and she indicated him to drink some more tea.
