"So, what do you think of Jake?"
I paused, glancing up from my phone suddenly realising Nessie had been talking to me. She rolled her eyes at the lack of attention I was giving her.
"Jake, what do you do you think of him?" She repeated.
"Oh, he's a great guy, you both seem really happy together and I think me and him could be great friends." I replied after a moment. They most definitely were happy together that's for sure. The way Jacob looked at her.. I can't even explain it, it's such an intense look of love that it's almost uncomfortable looking at, like he would literally take a bullet for her. It's sweet, but intense.
She beamed at me. "I'm so glad, you're my first friend Riles, you mean a lot to me already and I'm so glad you and him get along so well. He really likes you, he said he's glad I have a good friend to talk to."
I smiled at that. "I'm glad he thinks so, I'm glad to have you too, and I'm glad that he makes you happy."
My phone vibrated again and I looked down at it, seeing a new message from Hermione. I had unintentionally been ignoring Nessie as I had been texting Hermione, but Nessie was here, and Hermione was god knows where.
Hermione : We will meet tomorrow at the place we agreed, remember to be discreet, nobody can suspect anything.
I typed back a reply, hurrying as I heard Nessie huff.
"Who are you texting?" She demanded.
"Uh, just a friend from back home." It wasn't a lie.
"Well can you talk to her later or something? I'm here, and you're kind of ignoring me." She frowned.
I smiled apologetically. "I know I'm sorry, I'm done now, I promise."
I slid my phone back into my pocket and put my hands on the table in the cafeteria. I hadn't meant to be rude, I just needed to discuss where we were meeting for horcrux hunting.
"Is everything okay?" She wondered, noticing the stressed look on my face.
"Huh? Yeah, yeah everything's fine." I assured her, although she didn't look convinced. I hated not being able to tell her, I had always been the worst at keeping secrets, but telling her would put her in danger. To her and everyone else here, I needed to be Riley Evans, an ordinary muggle. Besides, I was in America, and America had some really backwards laws about interacting with muggles, or 'nomads' as they call them.
"So, the bonfire on Saturday? You really up for it?" She had asked me this so many times that day I had lost count, she seemed paraniod that I was going to change my mind.
"My anwser hasn't changed from five minutes ago when you asked me." I sighed.
"Just making sure." She huffed.
"Ness, if I didn't want to go I would say. It's only Wednesday today anyway, relax until the day comes." I said trying to ease her worrying.
"Yeah, you're right, I've just never had a friend before." She said smiling sadly, I understood why she was worried, but she just needed to trust me.
"Um, why aren't you eating?" I asked, suddenly noticing.
Her eyes widened. "Um, I just, well I eat a lot at home, and I snack in some of my classes, the ones I don't have with you because um, I'm quite nervous eating in front of people."
