Chapter One~
~Avoid misfortunate encounters with the 'It' people at extremely embarrassing places.~
I had been waiting in line for over two hours now, just outside of Wal-Mart, with all the other people that had forgotten to do their Christmas shopping for their loved ones. A woman behind me was hugging a baby lovingly to her chest, humming softly in its ear. People around her cooed at the baby, finding the whole situation adorable. I found it annoying. Maybe if it wasn't for the fact that the infant was wailing loudly in my right ear, I would at least think it was cute. I fumbled for my iPod that was located in my back pocket, cursing myself for having forgotten the existence of my now ear saver. Happiness flew through my body as 'Payphone' by Maroon5 started playing.
I suddenly sighed in relief as I saw that the door to the beloved store opened. But then it all became a human tornado. Or hurricane. People dashed towards the entrance, pushing and yelling, all friendliness toward their fellow humans now forgotten. I made a run for the doors, pushing my way through an overweight man blocking the doors. I quickly made my way towards the toy section that was so full, it looked like Zayn Malik was here.
I scanned through the almost empty shelves, looking for something that would work for my seventeen year old brother. I found nothing. I had four hundred dollars with me, and I suddenly remembered that I had accidentally broken his Xbox. I whimpered as I realized that I was going to have to spend most of my money for it. Oh well. I flew towards the video games section, and suddenly, I saw it. Only one was left. I ran as fast as I could, almost tripping over my own feet. I was so close. So, so close. It was almost in my hands. And then, in front of my very eyes, it was grabbed. By the very hands of the most popular guy in school. Shane Keegan. With his infamous smirk.
"Looking for this?" He said, holding up my brother's not-anymore gift. He was obviously amused at the annoyed expression I was sure to have plastered on my face. I moaned internally. That jerk. He was the biggest player in the whole school. Not to mention hottest.
Every high school has one. The one guy that every guy wanted to be and every girl wanted to be with. But I didn't get fooled by appearances, which was probably one of the many reason why I was one of the lowest people in the damn school. Just because I didn't fall at his feet like everyone else did, people thought I was weird. Not that I cared. I enjoyed my not social life way too much. It was perfect, as in drama-free. The fewer friends you have, the fewer problems you have. I heard him clear his throat, which brought me back to reality. I realized I hadn't answered him.
"Yes, I really need it. Can I have it please?" I asked, reaching my hand out. He grinned down at me, making me feel a bit self-conscious.
"Nope." He stated, and with that, turned around and walked away. I stood there, my fist clenching in anger. A low growl escaped from the back of my throat, and I closed my eyes. I lifted my leg up and kicked a box that was on the ground. The embarrassing part? It was filled with something that hurt so bad, I hopped from one foot to another for a good five minutes. Ow. I should have expected this. What else could go worse? With my luck, everything. I started walking away, but stopped when my phone started ringing. ''Hello?" I answered, my voice sounding cold.
"Amy, honey, I need you to buy something for me while you're there." My mom's voice greeted me. I rolled my eyes. ''I'm on my period, and I ran out of my pads. Buy some for me, will you? Thank you! I love you, bye!" My face scrunched up in disgust. Too much information alert! But yeah, sure mom. I'll do it. Thanks for letting me answer. Or giving me a choice.
I sighed again as I started walking towards the women section. I looked through them, wondering what kind my mom got. I made a face again by just thinking about it. This is not a conversation I want to be having with myself. I shrugged and grabbed a pink pack. I turned around- and bumped into Shane. Again. I felt my face redden in embarrassment. It wasn't only that he had caught me buying these disgusting, but helpful things, but it was what he said next that made my face burn even more.
"That time of the month, Anna? That would explain why you kicked the poor innocent box on the ground and then proceeded to do a little Indian dance." He said, trying to look serious but failing miserably.
I closed my eyes, totally embarrassed. "Amy. My name's Amy." My smart reply. I might as well say I don't have any comebacks.
He lifted his hands up in defense. "Don't judge. But anyways, I would be really embarrassed too if someone recorded my dance, too. So I totally understand how you feel." My eyes flew open, all wide.He smiled at me evilly, and then walked away again, but not before showing me his phone, where my little fit was recorded. Leaving me seeing red. Again. I decided not to kick anything this time.
Great. Just great. First I get stuck with a baby wailing in my ear. Then the jerk steals my brothers present. Then I 'dance', humiliating myself by being recorded. And then the jerk catches me buying womanly stuff. In the end I was stuck with no present, and a sore toe.
My life is fantastic, isn't it? I decide to not waste any time on feeling sorry for myself, and just keep going in my life. I walk towards the cash register, handing the pads to the cashier. Which, to my humiliation, was a cute guy. He smirked. I blushed.
I heard a chuckle from behind me,and knowing who it was, didn't turn around.
"Why are you blushing, Annie?" The annoying voice made me want to punch someting. "You shouldn't be shy about your woman stuff. We understand. You got any cramps yet?'' His voice was filled with amusement, which just made my blush deepen. I didn't want to talk to him. Not even to inform him that he had gotten my name wrong once again. I doubted he even cared. This was the first time he had ever acknowledged me.
I waited impatiently for the cashier to finish scanning the pads, and after an eternity and a half, he finished. I quickly took it, paid, and practiacally ran away from the store. My feet ached and I was tired from standing outside for so damn long. Just as I was about to open the door to my car, a strong arm blocked my way. I sighed. What does he want now?
"Here." He said softly, handing me, to my surprise, the Xbox. "I didnt even need it." I was startled. Shocked, you know? This was new to me. I mean, a popular stuck up person, being nice? What the hell? "Are you gonna take it or not?" He asked, annoyed now. I slowly took it fro is hands, feeling somewhat guilty. I shouldn't have judged him so quickly. I barely even knew him.
"T-thank you.." I started to reply, but he cut me off with a wave of his hand. "Don't get used to it, babe." He said, smirking. I rolled my eyes. Of course he ruined it.
"I wont. Bye." I hopped in my car, starting the engine.
"Im serious!" I heard him call as I pulled away. "Don't get used to it!" I rolled my eyes again, all nice thoughts of him now forgotten.
As if.
