*Three Months Later*
"Cassie, come on we're going to be late!"
I'll never understand how she consistently wastes time on her appearance, I mean who cares? It's not like anyone important goes to our school. We attend class, try to get the best possible grades, graduate, and then go to college, so why bother trying to make an impression as if it'll matter?
"I'm here, I'm here," Cassie yells while jogging to my car. Is she really wearing heels?
"Hey, sorry my Dad was holding me up." I chuckle at her lame excuse.
"Shut up, just admit you were putting on makeup or trying on twelve different outfits till you found the right one," I snicker.
"No, cause' you'll just make fun of me," she says while stepping into the car.
"You're right," I laugh.
"You know, you used to actually try freshman year, so I don't get why you're giving me shit," Cassie says.
"Cassie, we're seniors meaning we basically know everyone at school. The pressure of dressing up every day has slowly deteriorated through the years to the point where I really couldn't care less-"
"Alex, I can't okay. I have a certain kind of reputation so I intend on seeing it through. By the way, did you hear about the new kid-" She immediately stops.
"What—what is it?" I turn my head in her direction and notice a sight of fear growing on her face. Her skin had rapidly turned pale making me interested to see what had caused her to be in such a state.
I look and noticed nothing but a dark-haired man parked in a black car near the sidewalk by her house. He was too far for me to catch details of his face, yet something inside of me felt violated by his presence.
"Cass why are you looking at him—oh my god the time, we're gonna be so late." I reversed out of the neighborhood then drove onto the main road headed towards school.
Throughout the entire car ride, she kept our conversation to a minimum of words which was weird since she's always been the yapping type. I wondered what had her so quiet? In minutes, we arrived at the student parking lot.
"Come on let's go!" I scream. She snaps out of her trance then quickly grabs her backpack.
We ran into the school building but noticed all the halls were empty meaning the bell already rang for the first period.
"Shit, I'll see you later," I said.
"Okay, bye." Cassie then walks away abruptly. I jogged to my classroom in confusion as to what had happened when I picked her up? What was with her? What had her acting so weird?
I dismissed my thoughts as I opened the door and spotted more than a dozen pairs of eyes staring at me, including an angry history teacher.
"Sorry, there was traffic." I lie with a half-smile that quickly disappears as Mr. Thompson expresses his annoyance.
Shut up and sit down Alex. I fumble around my bag till I grab my binder containing last nights' assignment as Mr. Thompson reviews the answers.
For some reason, there was something in the way of me seeing the board. A tall figure was blocking my view which was weird since that wasn't a problem last class.
It was a boy, someone I'm sure I've never seen at this school before. I study his body language as he lazily sits in his seat, twirling a pen in his hand. His nails look well-groomed, almost shimmering in the light as his fingers routinely work their way around the pen. I try looking way but my eyes stayed focused as if I was under some sort of spell.
