This is some basic information about the main character and the Society that he lives in.

Mateo was born outside of the community in a barn. Nobody knows who his parents are, or where he came from. He was found by a man named Ricardo Ramirez. Ricardo is a guard for Community 'X' and is married to a woman named Maria. He adopted Mateo and raised him along with his two other children Mia (Miya) and Miguel (Me-Gel or Mi-Gel)

Mateo was always picked on for being alot whiter than his older siblings, and being much smaller. All Mateo wants to do is explore the world and to prove he is valuable, he found the chance to do so when he signed up to be a"Companion".

A companion is a person who is trained in first aid, resuscitation, and psychology. They accompany Wanderers. They are basically a partner.

A Wanderer is a person who travels to different communities and goes looking for supplies and or to fix power lines and other things. They basically people who leave the communities as Messengers and foragers. But you must be amazingly fit and athletic. You have to pass extensive training to become a Wanderer. A Wanderer must also be able to protect their companion.

To get the virus you must be bitten. Since the virus is a virus that affects the brain making the person infected rely solely on instinct, other infected people get together and mate, the child that is born has never been human and is not considered human. The child also grows at an accelerated speed. The child will be walking and able to attack after 1 year. They don't look for a mate until they are at least five. If you have been bitten as an adult you will seek a mate as well. Sometimes infected people look for healthy humans to mate with. Essentially meaning rape. This is more common for males. They may or may not bite the person they rape, if bitten, the child will be an infected, if not, the child has a 25 % chance of being human. If you are born as a human, you are immune to infected bites.

A Enigma is a child born with the Virus. They will never be able to be cured if there was one because they were never actually living.The Virus is called 'Instinct Insanity'.

A Saninct is a person who is born human, but their mother, or father is an infected.
