Recap:
I heard a front door slam, along with some yelling.
I quickly ran to the stairs, and stopped in my tracks when I heard Bella’s voice.
“Cody! I’m your girlfriend! You can’t just walk away from me like that!” Bella screamed at Cody.
“Bell, calm the hell down okay? I’m going to tell you two things, alright? One…you’re NOT my real girlfriend! And two…I can walk away from you whenever I want, however I want!” Cody yelled back.
“You wrote a song about being a gentleman yet you aren’t even close to being one!” Bella said, going back to her normal tone.
“You know what? Get out. Just get out. I didn’t even invite you here, and for your information…I AM a gentleman! You just…” Cody said, pausing.
“I’m just what?” Bella asked.
I walked down a few steps, trying to be quiet.
I saw Cody shake his head.
“Look, Bella. You’re a sweet girl…you just…need to hang loose, you know? You need to not…be so clingy and maybe appreciate the fact that I’m doing this.” Cody said, shrugging.
“But…you’re doing this for yourself…not me.” Bella said.
“You’re right…kinda. But, it’s good for you anyways. I mean, you do like me right?” Cody asked.
“Yeah.” Bella said, looking down at her feet.
“Then shouldn’t you be happy that we’re doing this? I mean, it sucks that we’re just pretending but…atleast you can still call me your boyfriend.” Cody said.
“But, do you like me?” Bella asked, stepping closer to him.
“I did, and maybe I would again if you just calmed down a bit and let me do my things. Maybe we could have a second go at this if we really tried.” Cody said, pushing Bella’s hair behind her ear.
“You really want to?” Bella asked, smiling.
“Maybe…” Cody said, smiling as well.
I felt myself frown.
Their faces got closer each time I blinked.
This isn’t fair.
I thought he liked me.
I thought I had him.
I thought this would be a good night.
I guess I lost him.
“Cody, what the hell are you doing?” I heard Campbell ask, as he walked through the door.
Cody quickly backed away from Bella, probably embarrassed.
“Um, nothing.” Cody quickly said, running his hand through his hair.
“It didn’t look like ‘nothing’.” Campbell said, in an upset tone.
“What’s it to you?” Cody asked, rudely.
“What’s it to me? Nothing. What’s it to Maggie? Why don’t you ask her?” Campbell asked, pointing to me.
Cody looked at me shocked.
