"Come on kids, it's time to go, or there'll be nothing left!" Ginny hollered up the stairs. As if by magic, James was at the bottom, incredibly pale, his teeth transfigured into fangs, and with one of his more sophisticated cloaks on; he was going as a vampire.
"Yeah guys! Hurry up!" He echoed.
"One minute!" Albus called down.
"But-"
"James, stop whining." His mother scolded him.
"Yes mum." He replied glumly, slouching down. But his posture was regained slightly when a mass of messy jet-black hair came thumping down; Albus had arrived, dressed as giant pumpkin.
"Wow Al, you look great! Gosh, my little boy's grown up!" Ginny cooed at him. She was wearing her old school skirt, as well as a black long sleeve top, her travelling cloak, and her hat. She had been to a muggle shop, and bought a green, crooked nose that had a wart at the end of it.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. We just need dad to hurry up - finally!" James exclaimed.
Harry came down the stairs, clad in midnight-blue robes, with a large, silver beaded. Holding his hand was Lily, who was being a ghost.
Ginny ushered them all out of the house, and into the muggle streets.
The Potter's were going trick-or-treating.
As soon as they were in the muggle neighbourhood, James let go of his father's hand, and raced towards the closest door.
"James, wait for your brother and sister!" Ginny called after him, as the 9 and 8 year olds ran after their older sibling. James sighed, and waited until they were almost at the drive, and hit the door, excitement coursing through him. A moment later - giving Albus and Lily enough time to join the "ghost" at the door - it swung open, an eerie noise coming from the electronic devise that was in the hallway. From the dark, a figure who's spine was bent over shuffled forwards.
"Trick or treat!" The trio chorused, not frightened in the least.
"Very well, here you are." A deep voice announced, and thrust forth a box, which had paper covering it. It was split in half with a line, and two holes in it where in it, one on each side. "Put your hand in, and see what you get! One side is a treat, the other a trick!"
Albus tried to push forwards in front of his brother, but James simply shoved him away, hissing into his ear,
"I was here first!"
As many Gryffindors would, he had no hesitation and dipped his hand into any random one - which happened to be the left one - and felt slimy stuff surround it. Yet he felt around anyway, and was rewarded with a small chocolate bar. He took it out, and slipped it into his sleeve.
Grimacing, he gestured for Albus to go next. Seeing the look on his brother's face, he put his hand into the hole on the right hand side.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaah!" He screamed.
"What is it Al?" Ginny asked, her voice leaking with a thirst to know what happened to her son. This said, it also contained a slight trace of amusement at the fact that Albus actually believed that James had picked a trick.
"I-I don't know!" The nine year old wailed. "It was something all-all slimy and horrible! An-and it-it felt like it was moving! Mummy, what was it?"
"Well uh, I'm not sure sweetie. Sorry darling." She glared at the hooded man in the shadows, with a glare that could put Mrs Weasley's to shame. He visibly shrank away.
"Why don't you try again, dear boy?" With a vigilant look at the shady figure, Albus tried again. When he pulled out his prize - a "fun sized" packet of sweets - he smiled, and wiped his watery eyes with his sleeve. Lily went next, simply plunging her hand in, searching around for the largest item she could find, and pulling it out again. They went down the drive after thanking the mysterious man.
