Darcy, and Jake came over for dinner tonight. I haven't seen them in weeks. I was so happy that they were coming. Half of it is because we have a giant dining room and it would be awkward if it was just Eli and I. You know, since we don't talk.
They came over some time around 5:50 P.M. so we could hang out before dinner. Eli got us a butler, a maid, and a chef just in case we are really busy when the babies come.
I heard the doorbell ring. So I ran into the crystal tile foyer of the house, and unlocked the door. "Clare!" said Jake as he hugged me.
"Clare Bear!" squealed Darcy in excitement. She put her arms wide out to hug me. So of course I hugged her.
I invited them to come inside. We sat in the living room and just started talking. "Where's Eli?" Asked Jake.
I replied,"Oh, he's just working hard. He just got a new job and Degrassi as the director for the drama department a few months ago."
They both nodded. Our butler came over and said,"Mrs. Goldsworthy, lunch will be put out early today since we have guests."
"Okay; sounds good." I said to the butler as he walked away.
Darcy said curiously,"Ooh; I wonder what we're having for dinner!"
"Oh Darce," I said while putting my hand on her shoulder. "There's so much to choose from!" I handed her the dinner menu as her mouth dropped down in awe.
She asked,"So this is your life now?!"
"It's not as glamorous as it seems." I said as I handed a menu to Jake.
He asked,"This place is so cool! Do you guys have an Xbox?"
I said,"Seriously? You're 21 years old and still play video games?"
He said,"Heck yeah. So do you have one, or not?"
I pointed to the console. I just sat there next to Darcy, watching him play Call of Duty.
We all talked, caught up with each other, and all of that stuff. About an hour later, dinner was ready.
As we walked to the dining room. I noticed Eli wasn't there yet. Of course. Typical film boy Goldsworthy. I surprisingly just noticed that we are drifting apart. It would be awkward if I discussed how I feel with him with Jake and Darcy over.
When we sat down, there were pasta, and baked potatos on our plates. It seemed so weird to be in a giant dining room with only a few people in it; including yourself.
Five minutes after being called, Eli came downstairs. I don't think he knew that my brother and sister were coming from the look on his face. Well, obviously not. He's too busy.
He said,"Darcy! Jake! What brings you to our humble home?" Sure humble alright...
Darcy replied,"Oh, Clare invited us over. And of course we wouldn't pass up on the opportunity; we haven't seen you guys in forever!"
"Well, i'm glad you guys are here to join us" said Eli. Then he smiled.
It seems like he doesn't even notice me anymore. I guess i'm used to being forgotten.
"So, Jake, did you check out my Xbox?" Asked Eli.
"Oh yeah! Played Call of Duty; great T.V. by the way!"
I took a bite and a drink and got up and left. All three of them were staring at me as I made my way to my room.
When I got upstairs, I put in my code, and hid inside my closet. Not knowing what to do. I just needed to think. My back was facing the door as I was sitting on my round couch.
I heard the click and beep that you hear when you get into my closet. Both mine and Eli's have different beeps. I heard mine.
"Shouldn't you be down there with the guests? Or working on some sort of project?" I said effortlessly. I knew it was Eli. He actually came to talk. Wow.
"What the heck is your deal Clare? First your really happy to have your siblings here, then the next thing is you storm off!" He said in a confusingly mad voice.
"I'm fine okay?!" I really didn't want to talk with him AT ALL.
"Just tell me what's the matter!" He said loudly.
"EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!" I screamed. Not so loud that the people downstairs could hear.
He looked surprised. "What do you mean,"Everything has changed"?"
I said,"Nothing is like it used to be Eli! We used to be so close! And now you barely talk to me." He looked like he felt really guilty. "I thought you working at Degrassi would be better for me because I would have someone to help me besides Alli. But no. It just gives you more and more work which means you won't have enough time for anything.""Whoa, uh, I didn't know you cared that much." Replied Eli.
"Well it doesn't matter anymore. We are just drifting apart. Again. Maybe it just isn't working out anymore." I said as I walked out of the closet.
"Wait. What do you mean?" asked Eli in a kind pf frustrated way as he followed me out.
"Look, tomorrow's Saturday. We can talk about it then." I replied.
"Okay, sounds good."
I said sarcastically,"Yeah, if you really have time."
I walked back down to the dining room to see that Jake and Darcy didn't eat their food yet.
"Hey, how come you haven't eaten yet?" I asked.
Darcy replied,"Oh, we didn't want to start without you guys."
I smiled and said,"Oh yeah, sorry we took so long"
Eli and I both sat down. Me next to Darcy, and him next to Jake.
About an hour later, our guests have already left and we've gone to bed.
