As i stood in front of the flower cart the man recognised me and greeted me. It was weird but it also felt nice. But i was still scared to talk to him. I gathered all my courage and spoke to him. I cursed myself as i stuttered but the man knew i was nervous so he calmly spoke to me.
Me: H-h-hello s-s-sir.
Man: Hello young man, how can i help you?
Me: I-i-i want to a-ask you s-something.
Man: You seem quite nervous, you don't have to be so formal to me. It's okay.
Me: *sigh* I was wondering if i could ask you about a lady.
As i was wearing a mask he was a bit uncomfortable with me and i was scared that he would run off but he tried his best to speak to me.
Man: And who is that? May i know the lady you're talking about?
Me: U-umn she is a young lady....well how should i put this?
Man: May i know her name?
Me: O-o-oh h-her name? Her name is Rose.
As i announced that her name was Rose, tears started to form on his eyes. I panicked as i didn't know what to do. I can't just approach hum but before i spolr he told me something. A word that i feared more than love.
Man: Oh Rose? Well i am her father but i'm sorry. Rose is dead. She died with a heart attack when she returned from a garden. My cousins found her next to a forest.
Me: Does she talk about that garden often?Man: Well yes. She was in love with that garden. We don't know where or whose or when she found that garden but she always come back happily everyday with flowers in her hands. Rose was a lovely girl. It is sad to know that she is no longer here.
I smile beneath the mask as her father was talking about her but at the same time tears were falling down.
Me: I am sorry for your daughter and please forgive me for bringing up that.
Man: No. It's okay. She is fine now. Happy again in her new place.
I couldn't hold back my tears as i started to sniffle underneath my mask. As i turned around to leave, Rose's father called me.
Man: If it is not a problem, may i know your name and would you like to join us for dinner?
I held back my breath and i questioned myself if i heard the right thing. How can a person who just knew me. A person who even hasn't seen my face just invite me for a meal.
Me: I would love to but thank you unfortunately i have an errand to run so i'll have to decline your invitation kind sir.
The man smiled to me and spoke. The way he spoke reminded me of Rose and i knew if i stayed there any longer i would burst into tears.
Man: Okay then but know that you're always welcome here.
Me: Sir. You don't even know who i am and how i look....how can you trust me?
Man: Son, face don't matter. Looks don't matter. And i don't have to know you. Your voice tells me that you're trustworthy. Trust me son you are wonderful and your past life doesn't matter. Live your life the best and i'm sure Rose would love to know you.
I was shocked as the man spoke as if he knew me for years but i decided to shrug it off.
Man: Now you may go, your work awaits you.
