Keaton’s P.O.V
“Keats can we talk?”
I nodded, proceeding to sit on the sofa. Ophelia and Shawn sat opposite me, holding hands. They both had frowns spread across their faces. I then noticed that, Ophelia’s eyes lacked her normal eyeliner and had red-rims covering them instead.
“You know we went to doctors for Leyton today, because we thought he had ADHD?” Ophelia asked. She wiped at her eyes before continuing.
“It’s… we were right. He is A…ADHD.” Shawn turned her into his arms, allowing Ophelia to rest her head on his shoulder.
Shawn whispered in her ear; attempting to ebb her sobs. “I don’t think I can cope Shawn.” Ophelia murmured between sobs.
Shawn rubbed her back comfortingly. I was still frozen in my seat. I wanted to get up and comfort my sister but my body was glued to the seat.
Although, I wasn’t particularly close with Leyton before I moved here, I was still his Uncle. It still hurt to see him ill- even though he didn’t know.
At that point, Leyton decided to wonder in the lounge. He stared at his mum and dad in shock. He walked over to them, standing at their feet.
“Why are you crying?” He asked, staring at Ophelia who was pulling back from Shawn, with make-up running down her face.
“No reason bud. Mummy’s eyes are broken.” Shawn hastily replied.
I couldn’t help but smile at Shawn’s reply. I know Leyton’s eight, but I was pretty certain he should know when his parents were lying to him. Obviously not.
Ophelia stood up and called Leyton into the kitchen. Luckily, it was attached to the lounge, so we didn’t have to follow. “Leyton could you take this tablet please?”
“Why mummy?” Leyton inquired, staring at the white pill in Ophelia’s hand intently.
“You know you’ve been a bit ill lately?” Leyton nodded enthusiastically. “This will just make you feel better sweetie.”
Leyton didn’t hesitate in grabbing the pill and popping it in his mouth before sipping on some water. He turned towards Shawn and me with a big cheesy grin.
“I’m all better now.”
“Yes you are Leyton.” I replied with a small smile.

“Why are you staring at me Keaton?” Leyton asked.
“No reason.” I mumbled before walked back up to my room.
Every time I saw him, I just kept replaying the moment when Ophelia told me he had ADHD. I really had to get a grip. I was acting pathetically. It was Ophelia and Shawn who were suffering the most.
It was their son.
I wondered if my mum knew about Leyton’s condition. I had a small inkling that Ophelia was yet to tell her. I don’t think she had even seen mum since I left. I think she was holding out for me.
I really didn’t mind her seeing our mum.
If my mum did come round at some point, I was going to make sure I was far away from the house. There was no-way that I was going to be near her.
