Chapter 2

You straightened your coat and wrapped your (f/c) scarf around your neck. You grabbed your stuff and headed out to visit your next eyewitness, Eren Jaeger. You hopped in your car and drove off.

You parked on the curb and walked up the front steps of the small house. Before you could knock, the door swung open and a man your age with messy brown hair and green eyes stood befuddled before you.

"Oh! I'm sorry, I thought you would be here fifteen minutes from now." he chuckled, scratching the back of his neck,"Give me a second, uh, make yourself at home."

"Um, okay.." you said, walking inside.

The living room was decent enough, but it could've used a little bit of earthy tones. You sat on the leather chair and pulled out your pen and note pad. The man walked back inside and scratched his cheek.

"Sorry, I could've made some coffee or something, I had a rough start this morning," he said.

"No no, its alright I've had my cup already." you smiled,"Shall we get started?"

"Right, yeah." he nodded, sitting on the couch across from you.

"Okay, so tell me the whole story." you said, readying your pen.

"Okay...but just to warn you, I get a little sensitive when I tell this story...it was pretty traumatic.." he said.

"Its okay, take your time and relax." you replied.

Eren nodded and took a deep breath.

It was late at night, I was getting ready for bed, when a strong fishy smell hit me. It was so bad, I couldn't think or see straight. Then I heard a noise coming from the back porch, like something with big claws was standing on the railings. I grabbed a flashlight and went to check it out, and what I saw still haunts my mind. It was tall, big, and black. It looked to be some sort of humanoid lizard, and it had piercing yellow eyes, with slit pupils. It was perched on the rails of my porch, staring at me. Then it flashed me its teeth and ran. I ran back inside and called everyone I knew, but they didn't believe me.

Eren was rubbing his temples stressfully by the time he was finished. You finished writing.

"Hmm. Well, you're not the only one who has seen it, don't worry, your not going crazy." you said,"How tall would you say it was?"

"Oh I dunno, six feet something?" he said, running a hand through his hair.

You nodded and clicked your pen,"Alright, can I check out your porch?"

"Sure." he said, leading you through his room and out to the back porch.

You looked around,"How long ago was this?"

"Almost a week." he replied.

"Hmm, I can smell something...but just barely." you said, sniffing the air,"It's musky, probably leaves his scent everywhere as a territorial display."

"Where was he perched at?" you asked.

Eren pointed towards the stairs on the right side. You saw claw marks on the wood, probably from the creature's claws. You felt the splintered wood, the gashes were pretty deep.

"Hm. Well something was here, that's a fact." you noticed something at your feet and knelt down, picking up a single black scale,"And its losing scales...Interesting."

You pulled out a plastic baggy and dropped the scale into it,"I'll have to do some DNA checks, and I'm gonna do some more looking around, if you don't mind."

"No, go right ahead." Eren said, biting his nails.

You walked down the porch steps and looked around the ground near the railing. You noticed a dent in the mud, it looked like a foot print.

"Bingo." you grinned, pulling out your camera and snapping some photos.

"So...do think you'll be able to find out what this thing is?" Eren asked.

"So far I'm for certain its a reptilian, but we'll see." you said, rubbing your chin,"I'm gonna make a cast of this."

You went out to your car and fetched your cast making stuff, then returned to the footprint. You poured the clay into the print and when it dried, you pulled it out and admired it.

"Webbed feet, yep, definitely a reptilian." you smiled,"You were a gold mine for evidence, Mr. Jaeger!"

Eren chuckled bashfully, while you straightened yourself and directed your attention to the treeline behind Eren's house. An opening in the foliage caught your attention, and you walked towards it, Eren trailing behind you.

"Jesus, these are brambles!" you gasped, pulling out your measuring tape and measuring the size of the gap,"Damn, this thing is big!"

You pulled out your camera and took more photos, then stopped for a second to place a hand on your forehead.

You sighed in exasperation,"Oh boy, looks like I'll have to come here at night some time, this might lead to its hide out."

You gave Eren your business card and left, excited to investigate this further.
