The Doctor put his head in his hands, silently sobbing. Two of the people he loved, the two people he loved more than life itself were gone. They had just been sucked back in time right before his eyes.
River watched as the man she loved cried. She hated to see him like this. She walked over to him and put her arms around him, locking him in an embrace.
"We can go back and save them," she whispered into his ear. The Doctor held his head up, tears falling down his face.
"It's a fixed point in time River. We can't save them," he replied, his voice trembling.
"Fixed points can be changed," she said. "I know it could cause a rip in time but if you loved them, you'd try and save them."
"River, I can't!" He shouted. "I loved them! Hell, I still love them, but others deserve to live as well. I can't change the entire Universe for two people, River. I just can't. If I could, I'd go back and save everyone that ever died, but I can't. So I'm sorry you had to watch your parents die, but at least they're together." River slightly parted her lips, searching for a response she could never find.
"You've traveled alone too long, Doctor. That's the only reason you're saying any of this." As she spoke these words, she realized how much she sounded like Amy. She felt her eyes swell up and tears begin to form. As one silently fell, River thought of their parents. What were they going to say? It all was too much to bear.
"Doctor, the least we could do is tell their parents." River said, her voice sounding unusually small.

Millions of thoughts ran through the Doctor's head. River wanted him to go tell Brian, and Amelia'a parents that they weren't coming back.
"Listen, Brian, when you get this message, write this down. Meet me at Starbucks at 48 Queen Street at noon in the 2nd of October." The Doctor pressed the end call button on his phone. He was dreading the moment when he had to tell Brian that his son and daughter-in-law weren't coming back. How was he going to tell him? The Doctor hated himself for letting River talk him into this.
"I'll go with you," River said, trying to comfort him.
"Thank you, River. I would like that." He smiled at her, and their eyes met for only a second, but what felt like eternity. An eternity that they would want to spend together.
