Young Shiloh was awakened by the the sound of her parents talking downstairs with her grandmother, a joyous woman who the young girl adored. She jumped out of her bed and ran to the door, nearly slipping as she ran. She managed to catch herself though and clutched onto the door as she flew down the steps hurriedly, her steps quickening the closer she got. The adults in the other room all found themselves looking over when they heard the hurried steps of the small child followed by her cry of "Grandma!" over and over as she ran to tightly hug the older woman who let out a laugh at the enthusiasm of her granddaughter.
"Why hello there dearie, my how much you've grown. Are you sure that you still are my little Shiloh?" The older woman asked, sitting down in the rocking chair to relax her old knees, which didn't last too long because her granddaughter took the opportunity to climb up and sit on her lap. "Of course I am grandma! I only just got a bit bigger, not by much though." The young girl stared and hugged her, "I missed you grandma, did you bring me any presents?" She asked and tilted her head gently, her brown eyes going big as she gave her best puppy dog face, causing a smile to form on the face of the other woman. "Of course I did, just have to find it here." She said and dug around in her purse before pulling out a few chocolate coins, handing all but one over to the small child.
The woman found herself immersed in the emblems as memories flooded over her, "My dear child, have you ever heard the story of a group of girls and boys who changed the world that we lived in?" She asked her wrinkled, blue eyes staring into the child's dark brown ones, watching as they shook their head at the sound of such a story, immediately becoming interested in that instead of the golden chocolates. The grandmother smiled, reaching into another pocket of her old purse, "Well, I suppose it is about time that you do then." She said and took out a binder journal, opening it and flipping to the first available page. The book was old and the ink looked like it was starting to fade.
"Grandma, I didn't know you wrote stories..." The child said looking back up, intrigued at the realization, to which the woman just shook her head. "That is the thing my dear child, this is not just a story I have written, it is an event that happened many, many years ago. I know, because I was there." She said and got them both a bit more comfortable as she began to read out the first line of the first page on the old, faded notebook.
"The date is September 16th, 2023..."
