Chapter 13

Flashback twelve years old

"Rowen, calm down this is going to work. They believe our act" I link

"Sorry Ruby, it's just scary thinking of what will happen if we are caught" Rowen replies

"Rowen, you're 18 for goddesses sake, stop being such a baby. I know what I'm doing" I say with a slight growl through the link. My anger is getting a little bad but hay I think it's understandable.

I'm in the kitchen making the last meal I'll ever make for these mutts and Rowan, who is amazing if not a baby and has been helping me gain weight slowly and unnoticeably. I've gained 4 pounds in the last few months, I was 5 stone which is severely underweight for my BMI, I need to be at least 6 stone so Rowan is helping me get back to a healthy weight.

Speaking of Rowan, he's sat in the living room, jumping at the slightest sound or a person entering the room, he's far too nervous.

"Alright, alright love. No need to growl at me." Rowen says, I roll my eyes.

"I'm going to drop the box of eggs and you are going to come and beat me into submission, okay baby" I tell him watching him through the corner of my eye.

"Yes, Ruby" he replies although I see him stiffen at my words, he hates having to do this but it needs to be done.

I drop the box and they crack all over the floor and make a mess everywhere, Rowan reacts immediately and storms towards him, his mask looks very frightening. He grabs my upper arm and shoves me into the floor, egg yolk gets all over me.

"Clumsy, stupid, Little Bitch. Look at the mess you've made. Why can't you ever just be careful and watch what you're doing?" Rowen shouts threateningly, he could be an actor.

He kicks me into the cupboards but it doesn't feel like he's actually trying. I sigh inwardly and roll my eyes heaven ward. Honestly, this boy needs to realise if he doesn't do this we will not make it. I don't think he realises, that I'm serious about the escape or die trying. I don't want to die but I really don't want to stay here any longer either.

"Rowan, stop pretending to hurt me and actually do it. We've talked about this, you have to actually do damage, make it believable. Now break my leg," I order firmly.

"What?!!" Rowen shouts through the link, his eyes widen as he looks down into my terror filled face but my eyes are hard and determined.

"Rowen, do it, you have to. A swift clean break to my ankle. Do it now," I state firmly.

Rowan does as I say and quickly, before he can change his mind, lift his leg and stomps his foot down on my ankle. A loud crack fills the quiet and pain immediately flares up my leg, making me scream with agony, tears flood my cheeks, this is the exact effect I was after. Carlson comes striding in and looks over the scene.

"Clumsy Bitch make a mess again?" Carlson asks although it's obvious he knows.

"Yes, Alpha, I thought it would be alright to teach her myself since you're busy." Rowen replies sounding cold.

"Quite alright. Best take her down to her room, she won't be walking on that for a while" Carlson says nodding towards my foot

"Yes, Alpha"

"Oh before I forget, it's your turn to stand guard outside her room, not that she would get out anyways, what with that door being coated in Black Acid now" Carlson says grinning.

"Okay, Alpha" Rowen says

I whimper to make the last part of the act, to make it believable, although I am obviously in a lot of pain, Rowan and Carlson look down at me and they both smirk. Carlson walks away, leaving Rowan to deal with me. Rowan hauls me up a little rougher than he needed to, I scream as I look down at my foot, which is limp and bent at an odd angle. I grit my teeth and try to hop using Rowan for support but I am barely able to move an inch, so Rowan picks me up bridal style and I cry out as my foot bounces slightly. Rowan takes me down to the basement swiftly.
