Monday June 17th
**beeeep** And just like that junior year is over.
I walk out in the halls seeing kids laughing and smiling with their friends happy that school is finally over. I'm smiling right with them. Junior year was possibly the hardest year of high school but it's over and I couldn't be more happy.
I find my two best friends waiting for me in the front of the school. Hannah is tall with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She is amazing at basketball and hysterical. My other best friend, MJ (short for Mary Jane but hates being called that) has dark brown hair as well and is a little shorter than me but beautiful and the sweetest person ever. As for me, I'm blonde with green eyes, around 5'6, and shy in a crowd but never with them. Their the kind of friends I can see myself being close with for the rest of my life.
"Sloane what took you so long??" says Hanna.
"Sorry!! I had my Algebra II final" I told both of them. The math wing of the school takes forever to get out of because the main staircase is right next to them. "Well come on let's go! I want to go swimming in my pool, it's so freaking hot out" says MJ. We rush out and immediately I'm hit with the hot summer air. I'm not going to complain though, here in New England summer is amazing after our cold winters. We weave through the student parking lot and finally find MJ's red lexus. After blasting the air condition, we are off to MJ's house to swim in her pool."Alright guys I say we play some fun summer music" says Hanna. She always sits in shotgun since her music choice is the best. "Agreed" says MJ and I at the same time. And as if on cue I hear "What time is it" from one of our favorite movies, High School Musical. We put all the windows down, blast the music, and sing all the words the whole way to MJ's house.
After getting changed we immediately jump into the pool, which is refreshingly cold with the hot sun beating on us. "Oh my god this feel so nice" says MJ "I'm so excited for this summer." I silently agree with her thinking about a fun summer with my best friends and of course my new job. Almost like Hannah reads my mind, she asks me "Sloane when do you start your job?" "I have training Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then start working Monday." I tell them while laying on one of MJ's blow up floats. I will be a summer camp counselor. Luckily, the camp is about 5 minutes from where I live making it an easy commute. I know some kids from my school that will be a counselor there as well but of course there will be some kids working there I won't know. "Fun fun" says MJ breaking me from my thoughts "I leave for the Cape Sunday." MJ has a house in the cape and spends most of her summer there, it's fun for her but sad for Hanna and I. "It's a good thing you come home for a couple of weeks cause we definitely cannot go a whole summer without you" I tell her. "Don't worry I'll be back before you guys know it" MJ assures us.
After having fun in the pool for a while we get out and relax on the lounge chairs trying to get our pale white skin somewhat tan. This was the life. Laying in the hot sun, country music playing, and just chatting about the gossip at our school.
MJ drives us home a couple hours later and I am happy to shower and hang out with my family. I'm not like most teenage kids, I have a really good relationship with both my parents and my sister. I walk in and am greeted by my mom who is making hamburgers and hot dogs as a celebration for the first night of summer. "Hey Sloane!! How was your last day of school!?" my mom excitedly asks me. "Good! My math final was hard but it's over" I laugh. "Exactly!" says my mom "As long as you tried your best then you are just fine." I love how relaxed my mom is about school, I find that I do better since she doesn't put so much pressure on me. "Right! I'm going to go shower before dinner" I tell her. "Sounds good! Dad and Darian should be home soon" she informs me. "Ok!" I yell back halfway up the stairs to my room.
We sit outside for dinner since it's a beautiful night. The burgers are delicious along with the baked potatoes and cucumber salad. "Sloane are you excited to start your new job??" my dad asks me. "Yeah! I can't wait" I say a little sarcastically. "I bet you'll have fun and make some new friends, maybe even a summer romance" my mom teases. "Mom stop. I doubt that will happen" I tell her. My sister chuckles remembering this kind of teasing when she was my age. Darian is 22, graduated college, and has a boyfriend, but still gets in trouble with my mom (she's a teenager still at heart)."You never know"
my mom says. I shake my head, but a sliver of me is thinking maybe I will meet someone. Who knows what this summer will bring.Thank you for reading my first chapter of invisible thread!!
