Ayumi quietly sat on the window ledge looking out to the forest. The trees were decorated with shades of brown, orange and red. She twirled her hair that was draped over her chest, lost in her thoughts. The Inuzuka's household was very quiet today; Mrs. Inuzuka and Hana were out doing errands, and Ayumi had decided to stay home. One person was missing: Kiba.
"When will you be coming back?" Ayumi asked.
"I'm not sure, it's a pretty big mission. It's supposed to be at least six weeks." Kiba muttered. Ayumi sighed and looked down at the ground. Kiba came a little closer to her and lifted her chin up.
"Hey, don't worry. I'll be back, okay?" He said. Ayumi wrapped her arms around his body, burying her face in his chest. Kiba took off the necklace Ayumi made for her and slipped it around her head.
"Keep this until I come back." He said pushing a few stray strands of hair from her face. Ayumi smiled and pressed her lips against his. Kiba smiled and framed her face with his hands. Ayumi felt a few tears form in her eyes, but she contained them. Thye broke apart and stayed in each others embrace for sometime. Kiba kissed her on the forehead and slowly released her.
"I have to go meet up with my team now," Kiba said, "I love you."
Ayumi smiled weakly. "I love you too." She whispered.
It's been about 12 weeks since Kiba has left. Ayumi was coming to visit for the week, like she does every month, but still was waiting for his return. It was really worrying her that he was gone for twice the time he said he would be gone, and not a word was heard from Team 8 either. She pondered on what could've happened to him. Could he have gotten hurt? Trapped? Captured?...Killed?
"Okay, this is not helping me." Ayumi scolded herself. She stood up and made her way upstairs to her room the Inuzuka's let her have. Opening the closet, she took out a coat and slipped it over her shoulders. Ayumi made her way downstairs and walked out the front door. She was soon blasted with a cool breeze, and she pulled the coat closer around her. This weather was terribly cold compared to Suna, and it was only November.
"How do people get used to this weather?" She thought. Ayumi had to buy pants for the first time in her life this year coming to Konoha. She had forgotten how there was weather other than hot 365 days a year. She dug her hands in her pockets and started off down the path to the training grounds. Her shoes crunched on the leaves as she strolled down the dirt path. Even thought the weather was much colder than what she was used to, she thought it was the most beautiful season of the year. She picked up a brillant red leaf and twirled it in her fingers.
When she looked up from the leaf, she saw the tree that she was looking for. It was a large oak tree with a few roots pertruding from the ground. Ayumi walked over and sat down in a spot where the ground was relatively flat compared to the ground. Her fingers made her way up to the necklace Kiba gave her to wear and she flipped it over to look at the carving; both of their clan signs intertwined. She started to hum a song and her humming eventually progressed into singing.
"You can be the peanut butter to my jelly
You can be the butterflies I feel in my belly
You can be the captain and I can be your 1st mate
You can be the chills that I feel on our first date
You can be the hero and I can be your sidekick
You can be the tears that I cry if we ever split
You can be the rain from the cloud when it's stormin'
Or you can be the sun when it shines in the mornin'
I don't know if I could ever be
Without you 'cause boy you complete me
And in time I know that we'll both see
That we're all we need."
She faded out and stared at the necklace. A sigh escaped her lips and she closed her eyes, bringing her knees to her chest. The sun was slowly starting its descent into the sky and it was getting colder, but Ayumi didn't care. Her hair draped over her face, but she didn't bother to push it out of the way.
Suddenly, she felt something move her hair out of her face. She jumped and was about to pull out her kunai, but she dropped her arm as soon as she looked up.
"You know how it annoys me when your hair covers you face like that."
It was Kiba kneeling down right in front of her. Without a second thought, she flung her arms around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder, almost knocking him down. Kiba laughed and wrapped his arms around her. When he looked down at Ayumi, she had an angry look on her face.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Do you know how worried I was?! You were supposed to be gone for SIX WEEKS but you were gone for TWELVE WEEKS!!! I thought something had happened to you! Or you got injured, or was being held hostage, or something like that! Did you get hurt? Or held hostage? I thought you were supposed to be caref- mfph!"
Kiba cut her off by crashing his lips onto hers. She immediately accpeted the kiss and pulled him closer, letting a few tears spill out of her eyes. Kiba smiled and ran his fingers down her neck, making her shiver. Ayumi tangled her hands in his hair, never wanting to let go. Kiba started to nip at her lips, causing her to yelp with gladness. His arms snaked around her waist, bringing them into a close embrace. They broke apart, quietly taking in the air they needed.
"You worry too much." Kiba said, wiping the trail her tears left behind with his thumb. Ayumi smiled and put her hand over his.
"I can't help it." Ayumi said, "I'm just glad you're safe." She pulled off Kiba's necklace and placed it around his neck. Kiba smiled gently and pulled her into a warm embrace. Ayumi rested her head in the crease of his neck, never wanting him to let go.
Kiba looked down at Ayumi and noticed her nose and cheeks were a light rosy pink color. The sky was starting to change into an orange color, so he stood up and held out a hand.
"Let's go before we freeze. I know how much you hate the cold." He said. Ayumi blushed and took his hand. He pulled her up bringing her into another kiss. Ayumi just about melted in his arms when he kissed her.
"I love you." Ayumi whispered. Kiba smiled and planted a kiss on her forehead.
"I love you too." He said smiling. Kiba intertwined his fingers with hers and they started to wall down the path back home, happy to be in each other's company once more.
