"...When life gets tough, the tougher we should be..."

I woke up lazily and dragged myself to the bathroom to prepare for school. Last night was a blast. I have to admit, I missed the vibe of nightlife. The music, the drinks, the ambiance, the bonding, the girls checking you out. Haaays!

After dressing up, I went down for breakfast and saw my mom sipping coffee. Her face is all serious and her aura was so cold, I shivered a little. Oh dear, I guess she found out?

"Good morning, Mo—" I got cut off with her sharp stare.

"Why were you out last night without my knowledge?" She asked in a calm but deadly manner. Okay, she DID find out.

"I was with my group last night. Don't worry we did no—" Mom interrupted me.

"I will ask you again, Skylar. Why were you out last night without my knowledge?" She insisted, this time, with a hint of anger in her voice. I felt nervous but manage to answer.

"I forgot to text you. I'm sorry." I said in a small voice and she put down her cup and exhaled deeply.

"Of all the things you will forget. You chose to forget texting me your whereabouts?" She asked, again with her calm but deadly tone. For some reason, I couldn't eat breakfast on my table because of her "lecture." I was starting to get irritated.

"I'm really sorry, Mom. It was a foolish move. I won't repeat it again." I answered. She handed her phone to me and I almost choked on my coffee.

In the screen, was a picture of Stella Claveria and me in the club last night. What bothered me was, it was posted in her IG feed, and of all the shots that Aria took, Stella picked the one where she kissed my cheek.

"Look, I know you love Juno. But can you explain to me why did Stella post this?" My mom asked me.

"I—I don't know, Mom. Honestly. I swear I got caught off-guard when she did that." I reasoned out.

"And now, you're all over the news because of that." She stated and took her phone back.

"Now, if only you've told me your whereabouts, I can—" This time, I cut her off.

"Don't worry, Mom. There's nothing to defend there. I know the truth and so this should not bother me." I replied.

"My point here, Skylar, is you could've texted me your whereabouts, diba? How could you forget such a thing? You know that random people are just lurking around and can take a picture or video anytime and anywhere." She asked, and a raise of her voice was evident. At that point, I was really irritated.

"I said I was sorry, okay?" I answered.

"And what? Do you think that will change what had happened last night? What if you got involved in a more serious situation? You know that our world is not safe, especially for you because of my work. Goodness, Skylar. I thought you are independent already? Did you really forget or intend to forget to at least inform me?" She threw her arguments and I got pissed.

"MOM! Nothing happened to me naman ah? Look, I'm still alive and have complete body parts! You shouldn't worry about me like I'm a five-year-old!" I answered irritatedly. I glanced accidentally at our wall clock and cursed silently.

"I have to go." I said and hurried to the garage.

I opened my car door and started my engine but failed. Great, a breakfast fight, now this? I started hating my day when it was about to start. Though I don't like to talk to my mom, I still went back inside our home to ask for the other car keys I could borrow so that I can drive.
