Back to Katie's P.O.V

I had been living in the mortal realm for a month today, I kind of missed my home if I came to think about it, but I felt more wanted here in more ways than one. I did miss Puck with all my heart, that was for sure. I knew my brother would miss me too, I felt terrible for that. We were all each other had for our whole lives, but he knew where I was and was probably busy. Abby, I think she would miss me. We were best friends after all. I missed her quite a bit, even though my new friends were amazing. I wandered if Alex missed me. Or even noticed that I was gone. Not that it really mattered, made a difference or had any effect whatsoever on my life.
Hunter and Harrison both said they had no way to send messages between realms, other than somehow getting a portal to where you wanted the message to be and throwing it through. With that though you stood the chance of being sucked through the portal and they were illegal because of the opportunities it created for the criminal masterminds.

I spent that day with Daniel, as I did most days. I went with him to the university and followed him around to his classes. I had done this a few times, I actually wanted to enroll myself the next year. I found it very interesting, but Harrison said there were too many complications. I had wanted to ask what they were, but decided there would be a better time. After school Daniel and I followed the usual routine and went to Starbucks, we both tried something new with a chocolate chip cookie to dip in and then we went to the park to fetch Emma. We relaxed there for an hour or so, watching Emma run back and forth with an endless amount of energy, she hadn't seen us but that was okay, we weren't in a rush. As long as we could see her and get to her we were happy.

"You think we should get going before it gets too late?" Daniel asked. I nodded in response. "Do you want to come watch the sunset from the pier with me?" He bit his bottom lip lightly as he always did when he was nervous.

"That sounds wonderful." I smiled at him. The beach. Yay.

"Awesome." He said as his easy smile slipped onto his face. "I'm gonna go grab Emma."

"Okay." I said and waited on the bench for them. Emma was jabbering happily to Daniel and squealed happily when she saw me, then proceeded to run over and jump onto my lap and somehow squeeze me to death with those skinny little arms of hers. I never knew where the strength she possessed came from.

"Carrrrooottssss." She shouted her weird nickname for me as she ran up.

"Hey cutie pie." I stood up and lifted her with me. "How was your day?" I asked as we started to walk towards Daniels car, her holding my one hand and Daniels one hand with her other hand.

"It was so awesome!" She exclaimed happily as we were climbing into the car. "Look what I drew!" She said shoving a paper in my face after we had started driving. It was a picture of her standing in the middle, holding Daniel and my hands, ironically that's how we had just been walking. The figures were disformed but you could clearly see I was the one with the purple dress and long, curly orange hair, Emma was the little one with a pink dress and yellow hair, and Daniel was the boy with black hair. It was the most precious artwork I had ever seen. Daniel dropped me off at the shop to get ready while he dropped Emma of at home.

"The drawing is absolutely beautiful, Emma." I said to her as I got out of the car. "I love it."

She puffed her chest proudly, while blushing shyly and smiling like a Cheshire Cat. "Thank you." She said. "Do you want to keep it?"

I felt so honoured. "I would love to, thank you sweetie." I smiled down at the picture. "I'll frame it and hang it on my wall."

"Yay!" She exclaimed. Then I said goodbye and drove off home.

"Hey Harrison." I sang as I walked into the empty store, thinking he was in the store room. Silence followed my greeting. "Hello?" I repeated louder this time. This was weird, but he could have just gone out. I quickly changed into a pale blue, floral dress. It came to mid-thigh and suited my hair, which I had straightened. By myself! When I was finished I went back upstairs to leave a note for Harrison to know where I was, seeing as he wasn't back yet and I still preferred notes to text messages. I couldn't wait to leave, I had heard of the beach and the pier, the sunset and the waves, but I hadn't seen it for myself. Apparently it was like half an hours drive away, so that wasn't too bad. We would be able to make it in time for sunset. I stopped writing when I heard something in the kitchen behind me.

"Hunter?" I paused. "Harrison? Is that you?" There was no response. Maybe I was hearing things. I continued to write. A few moments later I definitely heard something. I quietly put my pen down to make a move towards my bedroom to get my sword, but before I could open the door to the hall way leading to the rooms it came flying open into my face. I collapsed in a heap onto the floor.

"Found her." Said a gruff, unfamiliar male voice. Large hands encircled my arms and hoisted me into the air. I came face to face with an ogre, these were much uglier and stinker might I add than the ones on Shrek. Although I couldn't smell Shrek. Reality dawned on me that this wasn't Shrek, it was a real ogre. I wriggled out of his grip as he was distracted by calling his friend and fell to the floor. I scrabbled away and he was so shocked, that I managed to make it a few meters away before he realized what had happened. Before I had the chance to get to my feet and run the ogre took two giant steps and landed the third step on my left leg. I screamed in agony as I felt it crack. He broke it like a twig. I didn't look at it because I knew I would faint. My shallow, short breaths came out at the speed of light. Why was he hurting me and trying to kidnap me? I looked around me for something to defend myself with or a way out, but could find none. Especially not in my current condition. My sword lying hidden under the bed in my room flashed through my mind, I'd forgotten about it until now. Not realising that I may need it in the mortal realm too, not just in my world.

I looked for my phone to speed dial Harrison, but it was lying on the cupboard where I was writing my note. How ironic. I heard a strange, strangled sound and realized that it was me crying. I could feel my heart beating so fast that I swore it would burst through my chest and hop away. I realized that this had all happened in a matter of seconds but it felt like time was moving in slow motion.

This was a small moment that I didn't want to hang on to, not for any amount of time. I thought about this cynically. It's all fine and well to want to make the best of any situation but what about this? How was I to make the best of this situation. I decided that maybe it was just a bad dream, and that making the best of it would be to be grateful that it wasn't reality. Now I just had to wake up. The ogre after stepping on my leg, punched me over my head. Successfully knocking me out. I watched the world tip sideways before I blacked out.
