A man saw us and with a joyful expression he approached us. He was tall. He had short, blonde hair and dark drown eyes. He wore a white apron over a green, long sleeve shirt. "I have'nt seen you kids around here before, where are your parents?" He asked us in a kind tone. Adrian gives a slight smile before he speaks. "We don't have any sir.." The baker ran his fingers through his hair with a sigh." Do you kids live near?" Adrian shook his head. "We don't have a home." The baker looked at us a little confused. "Where are you kids coming from exactly....this isn't really a kid friendly atmosphere..." Adrian sighed looking down at his feet. "From... the small village out west...." The baker sighed. " Ah...I see...where are you kids staying...." Adrian shrugged. "No where yet...." He sighed again."You kids hungry....." We both nodded. He smiled looking a little worried."Well why don't we get you kids something to eat, come on back here." He waved his hand towards the kitchen behind the counter of the bakery. Adrian followed him, holding me close to his side. The baker took us into the very back of the kitchen. "Now...you're going to stay with me...since you two are orphans and clearly to young to be wandering around, I want you two to work at the bakery with me and I will lend you my living space...but if you don't help me I can't help you...I, myself don't have enough money to support you two, so your going to have to help me make money to be able to...Do you both understand?...." Adrian's face lit up with happiness as he nodded."Yes sir! Thank you so much!" The baker sighed with relief."Good...Now how about that food. What do you kids want." He smiled and guided us towards the baked goods. Adrian glanced at me. I stared at the danish's and pointed almost like I'm hypnotized. "Danish~" Adrian laughs to himself. The baker laughs and hands me a danish. "I see you like danish." He looks over at Adrian."Now how about you." Adrian pointed to a basket of lime crescents."Can I have some of those please?" The baker grabbed the basket of lime crescents and handed it to Adrian. Adrian gleamed with a huge smile growing across his face. "Thank you!" The baker nodded."Looks like the customers have left. I'll go clean up while you two can relax a bit." The baker closed the bakery door and cleaned up the bakery. I turned to Adrian still eating my danish." Can you believe it, we have a place to stay! And we can understand him!" I take another bite of my danish. Adrian nods popping a lime crescent in his mouth. "I'm just glad your ok." I rolled my eyes and took another bite of my danish."You always say things like that.." He shrugged. I finish my danish. The baker walked over and sat down at the counter with us. "So tell me about yourselves, since your going t be living with me now." I smiled and giggled. "I'm 5!" Adrian smiled at me. "I'm Adrian and I'm 7." The baker looks a little surprised but smiles." You two are young. I also see you two are German descents, rare around here that is...Glad to see some mix down here! All we got is French and English running around....a few groups are German...we got our own part of town...but no need to go on about that." He laughed a little. "But I must tell you...don't the people you meet in this city, looks can be deceiving...you kids are lucky you came here instead of anywhere else...who knows what would've happened..." Adrian nodded. "i just want my sister to have a happy life. Not some cruel one she has to suffer in...." He looked to the ground reflecting on things briefly before putting on his usual kind face. The baker nodded understanding what Adrian meant. I was confused...why would I suffer? The baker broke the silence."Well my name is Gisfrid...I think it's best to head to Abendwald..That's where I live..." Me and Adrian nodded.
