*You'll see why...😉*

Dustyn POV

I cranked up the volume of the radio as one of my classic favorite songs came on. Bopping my head to the beat I started to sing along with full emotion.

As I slowed down at the stoplight the lady in the car next to me flashed me a strange look. I gave her a wide smile and waved at the kid sitting in the back of the car as I drove off. I could see her gaping at me through my rearview mirror. I chuckled.

Why the happy mood?

It was just collective joy from multiple events.

First of all my brother had finally given in and come for the football tryouts. When I would pass out of Avery High, there would still be a Smith quarterback on the field. I was proud of my little bro.

There was another reason for my cheery state. Today, was family game night! Dad, Aiden and Me.

Just the three of us, having some pure old fun.

When Aiden and I were still kids we used to have family game nights every single weekend. We would eagerly wait for Saturday to roll around.

But suddenly dad started drowning in work and after we changed schools last year, both Aiden and I got stuck in our own routines.

But all of these were just excuses. The reason for ending any family time together was plain obvious.

It just wasn't the same without mom.

I shook the thoughts out of my head. I wasn't going to ruin my mood tonight.

I pulled into our driveway and jumped out, parking my car. Jogging up the stairs, I reached to open the front door with my keys. Before I could twist them the door swung open.

My dad stood in the doorway wearing a bright smile. Stepping to the side he spread his hands welcoming me in.

"Welcome home, sir! I hope you had a wonderful and safe journey to the house," he said with a napkin draped on his arm, pretending to be a butler of some sort.

I laughed and played along. "That I did. Thank you for asking Mr. Smith. But do tell me, have you finished polishing the golden statues in my study?"

He threw an arm around my shoulder and smiled at me. "I really missed goofin' around with you guys."

Today was one of the rare days when dad had gotten off work early. Otherwise we barely saw him in the house.

Just then a head poked through the space between us. He glanced up from his tangled position and looked at us with big eyes. "Me too," he pouted.

Dad disconnected his hand from my shoulder and ruffled Aiden's hair. "Once a baby, always a baby."

"Hey Aiden. Where's your binky?" I teased.

"Probably in your diaper drawer," Aiden said lazily.

"Yeah yeah. I get it. You're both giant babies," Dad said interrupting our banter.

"Aww man we were just getting started."

Aiden hopped on a kitchen stool and threw an apple at me. I caught it with one hand and threw it back.

Dad pulled out two leaflets from under a magnet on the fridge. "Ok, so we have two options. 30% off at 'Sam's pizza' and buy 2 tacos get one free at the 'Poco loco taco' place." He read out enthusiastically, and then looked up."Choose any one!"

We both groaned.

It was always Sam's pizza or Poco Loco tacos. Eh. Lets keep up the tradition.
