a/n: so this story will start out when they're kids and in spain just for some background.

jorge's pov

im sitting on the monkey bars, looking down at the kids running below me. they look like they're having lots of fun, but for me, that's not the case. nobody has really ever talked to me, i don't have any friends. a lot of people just call my weird or make fun of me. maybe it's because i'm so thin? or maybe because i'm short? i'm not sure what it is, but i'm used to it by now.

my legs dangle off of the bar, swinging softly. i close my eyes and imagine myself down with the other kids, laughing and playing. i imagines myself playing tag with them, talking to them, but that would never happen because all they ever do is make fun of me.

i open my eyes to see a boy, around my age climbing up on the bars, carefully making his way over to me until he sat down right beside me. his feet also dangled off the bars, hanging lower than mine as he was obviously taller.

"hi," he said in a small, kind voice. "i'm benjamin, but everyone calls me benji."

i didn't even know what to say. i just stared at him, blinking mindlessly.

"do i get a name back?"

"o-oh sorry. i-i'm jorge," i say giving him a gentle smile.

"jorge. nice to meet you jorge."

"w-why did you c-come over here?" i ask quietly.

i was scared he was sent over here on some dare or just to make fun of me. it wouldn't be the first time that's happened. the people here are cruel.

"i didn't know i wasn't supposed to. i thought you wanted to play, but i can go if you want." he said the last part softly, looking down at his lap.

i immediately perked up. "you want to p-play with m-me?"

"yes!"

"o-okay."

"you'll play with me?"

"yes."

the boy, now known as benji, smiled and climbed off of the bars, looking back at me every five seconds to make sure i was following him.

we got down to the ground and he pulled me over to the swing set, sitting me in one of the swings. i started to push off and he got on his own. we were both swinging our hearts out until the whistle blew that signaled for us to go back to class.

"i'll see you tomorrow, jorge." benji said with a wide smile as he waved goodbye to me, walking over to his class.

i did the same, the big smile staying plastered on my face for the rest of the day.

i finally made a friend.
