When the Nurse asked me if I was the father, my heart raced with excitement. For a second, did I really yearn to be the father of my best friend's child?

Jaime sat in the passenger seat of my car, looking at her folded hands in her lap. "I'll have to tell Jason."

"No," I replied sternly. She looked up at me, shaking her head.

"I have to, Luke. He deserves to know," she whimpers.

"Not even twelve hours ago, you told him the chance of you might be pregnant, and he hurt you. I'm not risking what he will do to you and now the baby," I pushed back some strands of her messed up hair.

"C'mon, let's go inside," I tell her, unbuckling her seatbelt and mine as I climbed out of my car. I walked around, opening the passenger door and helped her get out.

"I'm so tired," she yawned, as we walked into my two-bedroom home. I led her back to my own bedroom, sitting her on the bed as I went to my dresser. All of my shirts were in the top drawer, and she needed something to rest in. I grabbed the first shirt I could see, closing back the dresser.

"Here," I handed her the shirt. She hesitated, giving me a look. She gestured with her injured arm, as it clicked. I stood in between her legs, lifting the bottom of her blouse she was currently wearing. My fingers trembled at the touch of her skin, as I helped her slowly get undressed.

I watched for her arm, pulling the blouse over her head and around her arm. She sat before me in her bra, making me have to bite down on my lip. I had never looked at her in such a way, and I hope she wouldn't notice.

"It's cold," she mumbled, as I pulled my shirt over her head.

She backed up into my bed, as I pulled back the covers for her to slip in. "I'll sleep on the couch," I tell her, pulling the covers to her chest. As I turned to go, she reached out with her good hand, gripping my wrist. "Stay," she whispered. And I did.

I held her through the night, as she sobbed and clutched her stomach. I wanted to kiss her tears away, seeing her so upset.
