What lives forever you may ask
When living is a mighty task?
A tree might live more than its share,
But even they begin to wear.
Deep-sea sharks take their time,
But they too go past their prime.
Sea sponges filter on,
But they too will be gone.
Eternity is quite a duration
That masters not incarnation.
Matter and energy take free-range
In the infinite steady change.
For it endures longer than we think,
Though we be gone in but a blink.
