Big thank you to Niamvers for the awesome cover and picture alongside it!
I slumped my bodyweight against the door leading out of the room that contained the bane of my existence.
"I hope you studied hard, Cassandra. I'll be marking these tests tonight." Mrs McCafferty's joyful voice rang out through the door behind me. She was out of character today, smiling every second of the lesson as soon as she caught sight of the expression on my face. In a word; jolly. In two, unnaturally so.
"Sure thing miss. You know just how much I enjoy our little 'surprise' tests." I called out, my sickeningly sweet tone bordering outright sarcasm. Surprise tests? They're only surprises because she mentions them any day I'm not there. Evil little gremlin...
I continued trudging down the corridor, absolutely wrecked. That little escapade took a lot out of me, getting home by nearly two and getting up for school only a few hours later. I treasure my sleep, but no. I'm a loyal and dedicated student... even though they don't know that. All this bother because one idiot kidnapped me.
I sighed thinking about it. That was a close shave though. The closest I'veever been to an armed man that was ready to blow your head off at even the slightest twitch.
I feel sorry for supers, being hunted down like game.
I stopped and leaned against the wall, thinking about last night. My heart pounded with excitement even thinking about it.

"That's a terrible plan." Jet straight out said.
"Yeah, what if it isn't there? Then what? We'll be cornered and they'll only have to fire a few bullets at us to take us out. We'll have nowhere to run." Argent reasoned out.
I sighed. "I know the risk, but what else can we do. Everywhere we go, we will be a target. It's definitely not ideal but I see no other way around it. You're aware the government is really set on the downfall of supers, so they won't hold back."
Another loud bang resonated from above. They were getting closer.
I lowered my voice even more. "So, you in?"
They were quiet for a moment before I heard an answer. "Alright." Argent.
"Sure." Jet.
"Lovely. So Jet, would you like to do the honours?" I asked pointedly, nodding my head to the direction of the long drop between the metal frame of the stairs and the cold, hard wall.
He stepped forward lightly, the metal giving off small clinks every time his foot made contact. "Easy does it." I added.
I could see his head turn to look over his shoulder to face me, probably silently telling me to shut up, then he grabbed the hand railings and jumped up to land on them lightly in a crouch. His cape fluttered behind him, the only noise filling the anxious silence that had overcome us. He sat for a minute, looking down.
Suddenly, one of the exit doors below us smashed open and a SWAT team filed out. The pinpoint lights attached to their guns swung back and forth, checking for enemies. I swung my head up to tell Jet to wait a minute.
But he was gone.
Sucking in a breath, I walked forward and peered down through the darkness to try and see what was happening, but it was pointless.
The lights were swinging back and forth still, their echoing steps piercing the blanketing quiet that had encompassed us before. I stood tense, watching, waiting for a change. Anything really, just as long as I know what's happening. I heard someone shift behind me and a hand landed cautiously on my shoulder, so as not to scare me.
