A poem for the girl I love

It was her.

It was always her.

As I lay there, the sound of silence deafening me I realised:

It was her.

She was the one who showed me

Showed me how to live

Not just exist,

How to listen

And not just hear,

And how to observe

And not just see.

It was her,

Her whose bright blue eyes,

Cheesy smile

Kept me going.

Her whose warm arms

Encompass me,

They hold me close;

I never want to let go.

I don't know if she knows

How she saved my life

How she kept me going

How she makes my darkest dusk become my most stunning sunset

How just her presence makes me smile.

Does she realize

How I wish there were a scented candle

That smells as sweet as her scent

How I wish there was a song, a lullaby

As soothing as her voice

How I wish there was a nebula, sunset or hilltop view

That was almost half as beautiful

As every aspect of her perfectly imperfect being

Does she see it?

Does she see the oceans in her eyes,

The birdsong in her laugh,

The hills and valleys mapping out her curves,

Or the feeling of comfort and complete self she overwhelms me with?

I hope she does.

And I hope she knows

Somewhere deep down

She knows

Knows exactly how I feel.

How she makes me feel.

Because I love her

No-one but her.

I didn't realize it myself

I was blind; in denial.

Everyone else noticed

They saw me fall

Like Lucifer fell from heaven

To the fiery passion of hell.

A single raindrop

Falling from a dark cloud as the light passes through

A rainbow.

She is my light

This love, my rainbow.

I didn't see it at first

But as I lie here now, I realise

I've not just fallen:

I've fallen in love.

Deep in love and there's no way out!

Do I want to escape?

Not really.

Because I fell in love with her

And now I can see;

It was her.

It was always her...
