   Y/N'S POV

If someone were to ask me what M'Baku and I really were to each other, I wouldn't know what to tell them. Honestly, I didn't know what we were either. If I thought about it long enough, I felt like my brain was literally going to explode. I knew for a fact that I was in love with M'Baku, but was he in love with me? That was the real question. There were many nights where M'Baku found himself with my company and others where we just talked when we saw one another.
Whatever had been going on between M'Baku and I had been going on for about a year now. Clearly, I just wanted to know straight up what we were. Besides from the two of us being complicated, I was also a maid. Maybe that was what was causing M'Baku not to be as public with me as he would a royal Jabari woman. I mean, but I was still timid, beautiful, short, and curvy, so I was still the whole package.

Since I was aware of how M'Baku never really told anyone publicly, I had mentioned it to him many times. Let's just say that conversation never got far. Since M'Baku was M'Baku, it didn't take much for him to distract me.

....

As I cleaned one of the rooms, I overheard the elders talking to M'Baku. I got as close as I could to the room, without looking too suspicious.

That was when I heard one of the elders say,"M'Baku, you need to marry a strong Jabari woman. You need to produce heirs to the throne."

The color drained from my face, because I wasn't ready for all of that. I was sure M'Baku would handle this.

M'Baku said,"I do not wish to marry anyone yet. There's still time."

I let out a sigh of relief and the elders continued to press M'Baku for the future of the Jabari. They even went as far as suggesting many women to M'Baku. Might I add, I wasn't one of the suggestions. Of course I wasn't. They probably didn't see me as anything but a maid.
It became silent for a few moments and I made some noise, cleaning, so they would not think to look my way. The noise probably would make them look my way, but it would help me from being so anxious.

M'Baku finally said,"All right. All right. I will meet these women and act accordingly."

At that moment, I didn't know what else to do but run. Run as far away as I possibly could from M'Baku.

How could he agree to seeing other women? I didn't even know what we were, but I figured he would at least mention me or fight until the elders left him alone.

I was too busy being mad at M'Baku, in my head, and running, that I ended up knocking T'Challa over.

I immediately apologized and said,"I'm so sorry, my king. It will not happen again."

T'Challa chuckled and helped me up before he said,"Don't apologize, Y/N, but are you all right? You look upset. Come."

I followed T'Challa inside, and he made me sit down.

He got down on one knee and I playfully said,"Are you proposing to me, T'Challa?"

T'Challa laughed and shook his head saying,"No. I am afraid I am just trying to fix your shoes."

I smiled down at him, and he fixed my shoes. My shoes that had managed to come loose.

That was when we heard,"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE????"

M'Baku was definitely jealous, and he rushed over to T'Challa and I so fast. That was when he noticed T'Challa was just fixing my shoe for me.

M'Baku became embarrassed and cleared his throat saying,"I thought you were proposing to Y/N. May I talk to her alone?"

T'Challa nodded and left before I turned to M'Baku saying,"You find the perfect Jabari woman yet?"

M'Baku jumped at my tone and said,"How did you know about that?"

I replied, with tears in my eyes,"I overheard your conversation with the elders. Why didn't you mention me? Is it because I'm just a maid and you're M'Baku?"

M'Baku took my hands and said,"No. Of course not. Y/N, I'm truly sorry you heard that, but I'm not going to choose anyone else. I just said that so they could go. Of course I wanted to tell them about you, but I'm never certain of where me and you stand."

I said,"If you want to know where I stand, I love you, M'Baku. Now, you tell me where you stand."

M'Baku replied,"I love you, too, Y/N. You've always been more than just a maid to me. It's why I could never stop seeing you."

I smiled so big and said,"That's a huge relief, M'Baku, but you're going to have to talk to them about the kids part. I'm not ready for all of that yet."

M'Baku laughed saying,"That's fine with me, and I will talk to them about it. I can't have you upset."
