The day I died was a cold winter night. Our school formal was that night. I had gone for a walk in the park when she approached me. Her long blonde hair blew around in the wind. She pulled something from her jacket pocket. A speckled red apple. I was getting hungry, so I took the apple. All it took was that one bite and I fell.
*two days earlier*
“Sarah wait up.” I could hear my best friend, Eviana, yelling to me. I stopped walking and she ran up behind me. “Are we picking out our dresses tonight for the dance?”
“Yeah. We can meet up at my car after school and we can drive to the mall.” I said.
“Okay sees you later.” She ran off to her next class as I walked into mine. There standing there was Parker Cameron, mine and all of the other girls at our school’s crush. He knew that all of the girls liked him but he didn’t like any of them.
“Hi Parker.” I said quietly...
“Hi, are you new?” I knew he didn’t know that I existed, but I didn’t mind. Eviana and I had liked him for a while, but I let Eviana have him because she was always prettier than me. Everybody thought that she was the fairest of them all. She was the queen bee of our school, and I was like the girl who stood in her shadow. I sat through class occasionally staring at Parker, but he rarely ever notices.
I met with Eviana at my car after school. We drove to the mall and went to the dress store. In the window of the store, there was a beautiful blue satin knee length dress.
“I WANT IT.” We said at the same time.
“It’s obvious that we want the same dress, and we can’t wear the same dress to fall formal. So to be fair, whoever it fits will get it.” Eviana said. I knew she would most likely fit in it so I let her try it on first. She had the store attendant grab the dress and she zipped into the dressing room. I sat on the couch outside of the dressing room. I could hear her taking deep breaths and moaning every once in a while.
“It… won’t… zip,” she said out of breath.
“Can I try it?” I asked.
“Sure. But I doubt it will fit you.” She came out fully dressed and handed the dress to me. I stepped into the dressing room, got undressed and slipped into the dress. The zipper slid up without a hitch. I stared at myself in the mirror for a few minutes, just spinning around and around in the mirror.
“How does it fit,” Eviana asked in a sarcastic tone.
“It… it’s perfect. The fit is… it fits.”
“Well come out and let me see it.” I walked out of the dressing room, opening the door slowly. Her jaw dropped as I walked out.
“Wow. It looks great on you.” I could tell that she wished it fit her, but she would find another dress. We looked for a dress for her, and we found a long sleeveless red dress which was a perfect fit. We drove back to my house to do our homework, and then Eviana would walk back to her house, which was right next to mine.
“Mom, can we go shoe shopping tomorrow?”
“Yeah, why? I though you weren’t going to the fall formal?”
“Eviana and my new dress convinced me.” My mom said yes and we planned to go after school the next day. I showered and went to bed. That night I dreamt about dancing in silver shoes and my blue dress, with Parker sweeping me off my feet. Then, I go out to get some air, and a figure comes up to me and hands me something. I can’t make it out but I can tell it’s some type of food because I take a bite of it and then it all goes black.
