"But you know, I never liked Amy no way cause after that potluck when she brought that dry ass Mac and cheese- first of all ev'rybody in the office know she got bout three cats. Wasn't nobody eatin' that fuzzy ass pasta! Then she touched my fro, sis!-"
Delaney's phone dinged indicating she had an incoming text message. "I sent her ass to cultural sensitivity training." She finished before she paused her conversation with her cackling, older sister to read it– rolling her eyes with a smirk.
"Florian again?"
"Chile, yes." She replied, showing her sister the video on the phone. A chubby cheeked baby, no more than six months old, trying to kiss his mother but ultimately devouring her face.
"He ruthless." Her sister chuckled and shook her head before sipping her margarita.
"Right?!"
Delaney and Florian had only been married for a little over a year but Florian had been ready for children long before that. In their four years of being together, he hinted at wanting children a few times but since they tied the knot, he wasn't letting up.
Delaney could admit: she wanted children with Florian but the timing was all wrong. She was juggling two businesses and a successful side hustle and he was traveling all the time with his acting. She was just now getting used to living in LA after being long distance with him– Baton Rouge to Munich.
They both decided greater Los Angeles was the place to be so they could both have more business opportunities and they were thriving.
She just wanted to enjoy her new life with her husband but he was ready to get the ball rolling on their little family. He'd been sending her Instagram videos for the past month with captions like "our baby is going to be this adorable" or simple heart eyes emojis. He'd gone into overdrive when realized his 30th birthday was quickly approaching.
Yes, they'd talked about having children and they were both in agreement that three would be enough. However, their plans of starting after a year of marriage turned into "well let's hold off until the second year." And now, Florian was getting fidgety. Delaney completely understood why he wanted to have children before he turned thirty. His parents had him when they were much older and he was their one and only.
He wanted to have kids young enough so that he could still be active with them and be "the cool dad". He also wanted to have children who'd be close in age and he knew multiple children after 35 was going to be hard to convince his wife to agree upon.
"Girl, if you'on gih dat man a baby! Shoot, it's rare that he's the one buggin' you about it. Most of these fools take off runnin' like Forrest Gump at the word 'baby'." Her sister pointed out, jabbing her straw into her frozen drink as she looked around at the other patrons of the restaurant.
"Oh, I know I got me a good one. Proposal after only two years of dating AND baby talk? I get it, he so amazin' but I just don't know if now is the right time." She countered, looking around at the other patrons in the restaurant.
"Oh sweet summer child, there's never a right time to do anything. You just gotta do it. Ain't no such thing as a right time. Ya'll both want kids so what the hell is a timeline? Just go for it. Y'all are both financially stable." Her sister Dee Dee shrugged, frowning.
This was true. Delaney and Florian had been building an empire; being both business partners, and husband & wife. It worked well. She had the business degree so she knew how to brand things for consumer appeal...she branded the hell outta Florian and now they had their own agency for fitness modeling. It went perfectly with Delaney's photography business. It was a win-win for the both of them.
