The coyote pack

It was a cold autum evening, the moon was starting to appear in the dark night sky, the leaves were floating off the dying trees in Southern California. The coyotes were starting to perk up as nightfall quickly approached. There was a rather small coyote pack in the small city of Anaheim, the city known for Disneyland to travelers, and the city known for ghettos to residents. A city full of stray cats and dogs, mice in apartments not named Mickey, a place with a water supply only the desprate would drink the tap water of. A city full of near tourists and homeless people. To tourists, this place is amazing, but residents know the truth. The coyotes of Anaheim strived off of strays, and mice and drank the water of the artificial riverbeds. The smallest coyote pack is where the beginning of our story takes place. This coyote pack had but only 6 members to it, two of them were Felicity and Alejandro. Felicity was small, not a runt, but wasn't average size. Her fur was a dark hazel with a light cream underbelly, her eyes were as blue as oceans, both usually half-lidded and in a lazy position. Alejandro was larger, strong, and courageous. He had light brown fur and a pure white underbelly, his eyes were a bright golden color, often wide awake and sharp. The two were almost complete opposites, yet they got along so well, it was as if their differences made no difference in their relationship with eachother.
Alejandro had big plans tonight as he was to ask Felicity to be his mate. After all, today was their first week being adults in the pack. This was a very important thing in the pack. They might've been able to help grow the pack in numbers, the only problem was that Alejandro was the son of the leader as Felicity was a mere omega, a lesser coyote. Felicity was nothing more than a food collector for the small pack. The way that Alejandro even had feelings for Felicity can ruin his chances to become leader of the pack and even get him banished, but the way that Felicity just shown like a midnight star had made the future leader swoon and desire the young coyote. He made the decision, but he knew it would ruin his life as he knew it: he was going to leave the pack with Felicity and start a new life, a new pack, maybe even a better pack. He no longer gave a danm if his parents would be disappointed in him, the further away, the less you heard. But oh boy... Did this cause a huge issue.
The moon rose high, the stars were barely visible in the night sky due to the bright lights that flooded the sky from the street lights and the amusment park itself. It truly was sad living the city life where you never see the starry skies, but every bit of territory for miles was claimed by other coyotes as far as they knew it. Alejandro let out a long, exaggerated sigh as he took a quick glance at his father, Thunder, talking sternly to Felicity's mother, Annabelle, and said. "We need to make cuts down on food, the higher ups will be the first to feed, I can't lead if I starve to death. I'm sorry if others starve in the process." The way his father spoke made his heart sink like a rock, he cared too much about Felicity to even think about letting this go unspoken of. Alejandro strutted up to his father, giving the same stare his father did to Annabelle.
"Dad, we won't be able to even get food if our main hunters starve. It would be selfish if they ate first, but we can't have them starve. No matter how important it is to have a leader, it is still important to have someone to bring the food to the table. Those who do less work will be the ones to starve. Only the elite should live." He stated and turned to Annabelle.
"Let Felicity do well, she is small, but I've seen fight in her, she can deal damage to our prey no matter how big it is!" Alejandro added in a hushed voice so his father wouldn't hear. He was confident to state his mind until where he needed to mention his love for the young coyote girl. That was what his problem was. That's for sure. Annabelle smiled as Alejandro spoke so sweetly about Felicity, she felt so proud to have raised a strong girl.
"Thank you..." She spoke softly, her voice hushed to jokingly mimick the hushed tone Alejandro used. He smiled back in return.
"You're welcome." Alejandro was a very polite heir, but his father was annoyed.
Annabelle soon enough left and Thunder started to speak. "What is it that you whispered to that annoying omega?" He growled looming over his now scared heir.
"I... Can't remember."
"Quit lying, you always say that when you refuse to speak the truth!"
"But I really can't remember!"
Thunder's growls grew louder, he snapped at his son. "Speak or you are banished!" He barked loudly.
"I-I complimented Annabelle on her daughter..." Alejandro whimpered out in fear.
"Don't you ever do that again. You must know your place, you are higher than her, she doesn't deserve you."
"Fine..." Alejandro was on his back with his tail between his legs. His father stared him dead in the eyes.
"Good. Now get out of my sight." Thunder walked away as Alejandro laid on the floor, afraid. Once his dad was out of eyeshot, Felicity came out nervously.
"I-is it alright if I talk to you?" She timidly approached the shaken heir. her ears lay flat on her head as her tail was tucked into her scrawny legs.
Alejandro blushed. "Sure..." He said getting close to Felicity. This was the moment he had been waiting for. He wanted to ask the question for so long. The question all animals wait their whole lives to ask. Felicity became more soft and trotted to Alejandro with a soft blush on her fuzzy cheeks.
"Thanks. I was afraid you would take what your father said to heart..."
"You know I wouldn't..."
"Do I?" Felicity and Alejandro started laughing.
"I have a very important question to ask you... Are you ready to hear something that will change your life forever?" Alejandro became a bit more serious.
"I think I am." Felicity smiled softly.
Alejandro quickly licked Felicity's muzzle, retriving a soft squeak and an excited smile. "I, Alejandro have loved you since childhood. Will you do me the honor of being your mate?"
Felicity blushed a deep red before saying. "Yes, I will."

Whoo! 1133 words! I actually got inspiration to do this story this morning when thinking about a couple of coyotes being trapped in my school and living off of the birds that stop by in the morning, afternoon, and night. I think it would be an interesting concept anyways, stay tuned for any updates I might upload and hopefully I can continue this tomorrow. It won't be easy since I'm in school. Anyways, see ya next time!
