6 years later
"Alex!" Delaney shouted as she stepped into the house. Mateo and her youngest son King darted past her to rush up the stairs to their big brother.
Florian and Delaney were fortunate enough to be able to adopt again after they tried and failed at having another child naturally. It was all divine timing in Delaney's eyes because Mrs. Willows called them three years later about a two and a half year old boy, only six months younger than Mateo, whom she thought they'd be good for. They were, and King was certainly good for them.
He came to them still wearing diapers, drinking from a baby bottle, and barely talking but with persistence and constantly being around Alex and Mateo; who talked to and played with him nonstop, he learned. He still had some delays but he was a sweetheart. He thoroughly enjoyed cuddling with Florian and Delaney which made for a quick and easy adjustment into their lives. Now, getting him to sleep in his own bed after sleeping in bed with his parents for a month and half, was a different story.
Delaney certainly spoiled King but Florian refused just like he did with all of his sons once they got acclimated. He expected King to meet developmental milestones and gave him no breaks which is why he was now a running, motor mouthed– sometimes smart mouthed (yet truly smart), curious and kind five and a half year old. He and Mateo kept everyone on their toes in the family.
Florian was absolutely smitten with his little family that had grown from zero to three in just six years. It all happened so fast but it happened when it was supposed to, he assumed.
"Alex!" Delaney called out again only to be answered by the sound of three sets of feet trampling down the steps. Alex hopped to the last step with Mateo and King each holding one of his arms– pulling toward the kitchen where their mother was.
"Yes ma'am." He said with a monotone voice, looking down at his brothers.
Alex had grown up so much from the tiny nine year old that cowered away from Delaney and Florian the first time they met. He was smart, charming, caring, funny, and believe it or not– outgoing. He wasn't the most popular guy in the tenth grade but he had a lot of friends and quite a few admirers– whom Delaney kept a close eye on cause she didn't want those fast tailed girls distracting him from excelling in life.
Alex was a handsome boy– 5'9 and still growing. He was lean with an athletic build, thanks to Florian keeping him in boxing and football. He indulged in soccer every once in a while but it was only a pastime to bond with his dad. He loved watching it on TV with him though.
Because he was so active now, Alex ditched his glasses for contacts and was sporting a low fade just like Florian. He'd picked up a lot from his dad which meant he was too smooth for his own good. Delaney could understand the appeal from a teen girl but there would be no serious girlfriends or "hanky panky" on her watch.
"Back up off me, chumps." Alex shrugged both of them off and mushed their faces, laughing and jumping out of the way as they both tried to hit him.
"Aht! Aht! Don't start runnin' round my kitchen. Take that energy outside and get the grocery out the car, please....thank you." She smiled curtly, watching them moan and groan all the way out the door.
She let out a dramatic huff and dropped her head on the table that she sat at, slipping her shoes off as she unlocked her phone to scroll through her contacts to get to Florian's number. She didn't have to scroll very far. He was saved in her favorites just like the rest of her family and closest friends.
Florian had been working close to 14 hour days for the last month, and she couldn't wait until he wrapped filming his current project so he could be home and be present to contain these beautiful monsters they called their children. Today was his last day of shooting and she hoped he'd at least be home before the sun set and and rose again.
