I watch in wonder as you wait patiently there,
At last you are shown to your restaurant chair,
Your aged blue eyes, laughter lines etched.
You request a tea; all at once it is fetched.
I watch you smile as you chat to a friend,
Menu in hand, broken heart on the mend.
Your beautiful eyes scanning the list,
Checking again that there is nothing you’ve missed.
I can tell by lines framing your stunning eyes,
You have lived and loved, you have said your goodbyes.
I wonder if you know how beautiful you are,
That many admire you, and watch from afar.
Our children have grown and flown the nest,
You’re older and wiser, now at your best.
Your beauty and elegance capture us all
Your hair the colour of leaves in the fall.
You cannot see me, as I study your face
No one see’s me in this unfamiliar place.
Wanting to hold you, as I used to do,
When I was alive; and at one with you.
Now I am gone and no longer there,
Still I watch you in your restaurant chair.
My darling I miss you, but I will wait,
Patiently here at heaven’s gate.
