On Tuesday we hung out pretty much all day at school. We kept getting weird looks from everybody else, which is odd because they thought we were dating still. But I guess it's because when we were "dating," we didn't really talk at school. Alex got the shoes that he won on the bet. He asked if it bothered me that he got them, but it doesn't. He loves those shoes now. We sat down in chemistry and I barely sat my hand on the table when Alex grabbed it and smiled.Caleb both his eyebrows at us. Jo and I laughed as he looked back and forth between us.
"So everyone knows that they are a thing now except me?"
"Pretty much." Jo says. I told her about me and Alex's first kiss at the concert right when I got home. I don't go without telling her anything that happens in my life.
"Hey," Alex gets our attention," now that me and Elena are a thing, maybe we can all go on a double date sometime." As soon as he said that, Jo slapped her hand over her mouth and snorted.
"Uh... we aren't a thing." Caleb says, laughing.
"Oh, sorry, I just thought because that you were because of at the party when you-" I put my hand over his mouth quickly before he can say any more. Jo and Caleb look confused and look back and forth between all of us.
"What happened at the party?" Jo asks quietly.
"Nothing, Alex was thinking about someone else... anyway..."
"Ok...," Caleb says slowly," Well I do have something to tell you guys."
"What is it?" I ask.
"Well... I have a girlfriend."
"What?!" Me and Alex say in sync. Jo starts cracking up.
"What's funny about me having a girlfriend?"
"It's just," Jo says in between laughing," I don't know... what girl... would date you." She finishes her sentence and continues to laugh. Me and Alex turn away from them and start talking about the chemistry project we are working on.
In seventh hour, I was taking notes when a piece of paper fell on my desk. I open it up and it says:
Elena Wheeler,
I know we haven't talked much. But you seem cool and stuff. Be my girlfriend?
-Alex :)I giggle and write down a response:
You can't be serious
Deja Vu much? I pass it back over to his desk and he scrunches his face up and laughs. He writes something on it and passes it back to me.
Dead serious
I write back:
Well in that case, sure
Ok so it's a lame way to get asked out. But it was funny. It brings back memories. After seventh hour, we walk though the school and Alex holds my hand as we walk. Everything is how it's supposed to be and I'm so happy. That's when Jacob walks in front of us and raises an eyebrow.
"What's going on here?" He asks, apparently amused.
"I'm just walking out of school with my girlfriend. Is that a problem?"
"Well it's not a problem. I just thought you should know that the bet is over, sense you obviously didn't realize."
I panicked. I wasn't supposed to know about the bet, so I had to play dumb. I let go of Alex's hand.
"What bet is he talking about?!" I say, acting angry. Alex looks confused but then understands what I'm doing. At this point everyone in the hall with us is looking.
"You know, the one where I bet him those shoes to date you for a month." I try my best to look shocked and upset but I'm no actress. I looked over at Alex who's looking down at his shoes. Suddenly he looks up at Jacob.
"She knew. She knew about the bet."
"What?" Jacob widens his eyes. I look over at Alex and question him with my eyes.
"I told her about the bet and she agreed to fake date me for a month. But then we actually got to know each other... and... we are dating now." He says the last four words confidently and steps closer to Jacob. Jacob raises his eyebrows, looks at me, and smiles.
"Ok, so you cheated. I want my shoes. And the money."
"Fine." Alex says as he takes off the shoes, pulls out his wallet, and hands a pile of cash and the shoes to Jacob. He then grabs my hand and pulls me out of the school.
When we get into Alex's car, I expected him to be mad, but when I looked over at him he seemed calm, almost happy.
"Hey, are you okay?" I ask.
"I'm actually the best I've been for the last year."
"What do you mean?"
"Well I have you, and I'm not keeping anything a secret from anyone anymore, and I also have a reason not to hang out with him or any of my old friends now. Which I'm glad, cause I don't think I belonged with any of them." He smiles and looks over at me, but I'm still confused.
"So... you aren't mad about the shoes? Or the money?"
"Nope. I have everything I need now." He puts his hand on my leg.
"That... that was so cheesy."
"It was nice! I'm being nice!" He says defensively. We both start to laugh as he grabs his phone and turns on Endgame by Taylor Swift. Before he pulls out of his parking space he looks me in the eyes as he sings the first line of the song.
"I wanna be your endgame."
