A few glasses of water and an hour nap later, Fletch sat up in the bed to see Jac sat next to him, on top of the covers, on her phone. He glanced down to see that he was still fully clothed and tucked in under the duvet. The Nurse sighed an internal sigh of relief at the thought that he hadn't embarrassed himself any further than, what was now a brief memory, the dancing he'd done.
"Morning sunshine." Jac smirked at him as she noticed him awaking. Fletch groaned and winced as he tried to pull himself further up in the bed to lean against the headboard.
"Paracetamol and water on the side." She said bluntly and turned back to her phone.
"You're a star Naylor, you know that?" He grinned and turned to take the hangover cure.
"I had some idea." Jac smirked again. "I would return the compliment but after seeing that shocking dancing tonight, I'm starting to rethink my opinion of you Fletcher."Jac got up and walked over to the window, gazing out over the view of the lake in the hotel grounds. A second later, a warm hand was placed on her shoulder, drawing her sharply out of her thoughts as she nearly jumped out of her skin. She was still on edge; just another underlying consequence of the horrific events of the past couple of years. Fletch noticed her flinch but didn't mention it, knowing she wouldn't want to have to talk about it. To have to talk about another thing which she considered a flaw. He still didn't remove his hand though and she didn't turn to face him.
"So tell me Naylor, what is your opinion of me? What does the great Jac Naylor think of me, Adrian Fletcher?" He asked from behind with a slight hint of laughter in his voice, signifying that he wasn't being entirely serious.
"Hmm let me see. You're very cocky...persistent, quite annoyingly caring. Oh and very childish." The surgeon glanced over her shoulder at him, a genuine smile on her face.
"Well I love you too Naylor." He replied with a grin, repeating her words from over a year ago. He watched her eyes soften at the memory.
"So your turn. Am I still all those things you called me all that time ago?" She cocked an eyebrow, challenging him to say yes.
"Yes." He said with a smirk.
"Well I love you too Fletcher." She threw back at him, returning the smirk.A few moments of silence passed of them just standing by the window, Jac looking back at him over her shoulder still. Fletch moved his hand slowly, from her shoulder to tuck a piece of her fallen fringe behind her ear. His fingers brushed her cheek in doing so, sending shock waves of electricity through her skin and across her entire body, leaving her tingling.
"So Veronica eh?" He teased, breaking the silence.
"Oh shut up. I was thinking on the spot, we were pretending so I needed a pretend name." She replied with a laugh.
"Are we still pretending now?" He asked suddenly.
"Well, it depends..." She said quietly, barely daring to say the words.
"On what?" He spoke the words as equally as quiet.
"If I can still do this, when we aren't pretending..."
"Do what?" He was clueless, not even giving her a chance to show him what he meant.
"Shh." She pressed a finger to his lips for a moment and then leaned in. Jac captured Fletch's lips in a long and sensual kiss. It wasn't rushed and he had the chance to pull away and reject her if he wanted to. But he didn't. He kissed her back. When they eventually pulled away for air, they grinned at each other goofily.
"I love you Naylor." He breathed, his arms draped over her shoulders, holding her close.
"I love you too Fletcher."
This time, they both knew that they meant every word.
"Why did it take us this long?" He laughed and kissed her again.
"Nothing to do with me." She shrugged seriously and they both burst into laughter, holding onto each other for support.
"What time is it?" He asked, suddenly realising how much time had passed since they'd left the party.
"5 minutes til midnight. It was only half nine when I bought you up here." She smirked again. "You lightweight. Ow!" She tried to duck as he punched her lightly on the arm.
"Cheeky bugger. Right that's it, you've had it." He laughed and scooped her up into his arms. "Time for bed for you." He punctuated every word with a kiss on her lips. Fletch dropped her onto the mattress and climbed on all fours, hovering over her to find her lips again as she giggled uncharacteristically.A/N: I feel like this is a good place to end it but idk.
