Chapter 12: Test (テスト)

"Good morning everybody. We have some really nice weather today. Is the sky blue? Our members have gathered for the 'pillar meeting' that we hold every six months as per usual. I find this pleasurable"

Tanjiro looked at the leaders face, analyzing what was wrong with him. That was then his face got pushed to the ground with force by Sanemi.

Everyone, especially you of course was on their knees, bowing with respect.

"We find it most honorable to be in your presence, Lord Oyakata. We eagerly pray for much happiness upon you" Sanemi said.

"Thank you, Sanemi"
Mitsuri pouts.
"Let me humbly say there is a soldier present in the pillar meeting by the name of Tanjiro Kamado who has brought a demon. I would like to explain the scenario. So will you allow me?" Sanemi says.

You shifted your eyes glaring at Sanemi, while Tanjiro looked at him confused.
"I see. I'm sorry he has surprised you all. I have given my approval for Tanjiro and Nezuko. So I want everyone here to accept them"

Everyone widened there eyes. You closed your eyes and sighed in relief.
"Ahh, even though lord Oyakata wishes us to do so, I am reluctant to give consent..." Gyomei says.

"I also flamboyantly oppose this. I can never accept a demon hunter who brings a demon along"

"I will abide to all your accordance, lord Oyakata"
"Either way's fine for me...I'll just forget right away..."

Shinobu and Giyuu stayed quiet. It was probably best right now.

"Don't trust them, don't trust them. We all hate demons to begin with"
"I respect you from deep within, but I can't understand your thinking! I completely oppose of this!"

"We are the demon hunters who annihilate all demons. I wish to punish Tanjiro Kamado and the Tomioka siblings" Sanemi grits his teeth as a vain pops out of him.

"Now, the letter"
"Yes"

Ubuyashiki's child unfolds the letter to read.

Could that be what lord Oyakata was talking about?

"We received letter from the former pillar Sakonji Urokodaki. '—please forgive Tanjiro for being a demon' 'Nezuko has a tenacious spirit and retains from human reasoning' 'even when she's starving she doesn't eat humans' 'and she has stayed that way for more than two years' 'you may find this sudden and difficult to believe, but this is the unmistaken truth' 'if by any chance Nezuko ever attacks someone, Tanjiro Kamado as well as... Sakonji Urokodaki, Giyuu Tomioka, and (y/n) Tomioka will cut their own stomachs open as an apology'."

There was dead silence. Nobody said anything, and as for Tanjiro, he was in awe and started to cry.

Sanemi was more pissed of now.
"What should I say if they're gonna kill themselves. If they want to die, they can just die and rot away. There is no guarantee in all this" he says.

"Shinazugawa is correct here! If she kills and eats someone, nothing can be undone! The people who got killed will never come back!" Rengoku said.

"That is very true. They can't guarantee or prove that she won't attack people, but you can't prove that she'll attack someone either" Ubuyashiki says making Sanemi jolt.

"The truth is that Nezuko has been living without eating people for more than two years. And because of her, three people are putting their lives on the line. And to deny this the deniers have to present more than this"

Sanemi grits his teeth while Rengoku didn't say a thing.
"Besides Tanjiro has come into contact with Kibutsuji" Ubuyashiki says surprising everyone but yourself.

"That can't be..."
"We pillars have never even come into contact with him...!"
"And this guy had?!"

"What did he look like?! His abilities?! Where is he?!"
"Did you fight?"
"What was Kibutsuji doing?!"
"Has the headquarters been located?!"

You sighed and put your two index fingers at the bridge of your nose, from irritation. You just once want them to leave Tanjiro alone.

"Hey, answer!"
Sanemi was gripping his hair.
"Stop that, Shinazugawa!" you said.
"Shut up, I asked him a question!"
"First off Kibutsuji powers!"

Ubuyashiki smiles as he places his finger on his lips signaling to be quiet. And everyone immediately did.

"You see, Kibutsuji has come after Tanjiro and Tanjiro shook his pursuer loose. The reason for this may simply be just to close some loose ends. But for the first time, I don't want to let go of the tail Kibutsuji has showed us. And this probably goes for Nezuko as well. I believe something unexpected has happened for Kibutsuji. Do you understand?"

Everyone kept there mouths shut. Sanemi on the other hand was irritated as he bit his lips making blood come out of his mouth.

"I don't understand, lord Oyakata. We can let humans live, but demons must not. I do not consent"

Soon with the speed of light he grabs his sword from you, making you a bit surprised by his action as he cuts his arm.

Making Tanjiro surprised and confused, while Mitsuri looked worried.

"Lord Oyakata! I present to you the ugliest of all we call demons!"
"Sanemi..."
"Hey demon! It's time to eat! Sink your teeth in this!"

Sanemi then holds his arm out as the blood starts dripping out inside the box Nezuko was in, testing her.
